Looking for a small, flat, solo settlement

Could you send all the settlers to other settlements and turn off the recruitment beacon?

Yeah, that would be a viable option if you don't want anyone there.

Sadly, this happens at most places, even if you remove any means to get up there. One I've had luck with though is Greygarden. As long as you don't have any human settlers there, the robots seem to stick to their routines, allowing you to build up onto the overpass without much issues. Rarely, your provisioner and his brahmin may spawn up there, but they generally don't hurt anything and are gone the next time you travel away.

There are several places that have no people there when you acquire them (Hangman's, Jamaica, etc.). Just do not set up a recruitment beacon. You might still get settlers though.

I'm with the guy who said "its no big deal." I've got tons of stuff stored in crates and boxes at Oberland (and before that at Sanctuary) and have yet to really notice anything go missing.

Normally settlers will leave your stuff alone. Until there is an attack then they go rummaging around in your stuff looking for anything better than the junk pipe pistols they get by default. Even giving them better upgraded weapons does not stop them for taking your Legendary weapons.

One of my characters fortified the Red Rocket to no end and had no issues until I decided to add in some shops and sent enough settlers there to man them. The very next attack I found half my Legendary weapons, I had stored in a safe, missing. Sure enough the merchant settlers had them all. Which made no sense to me since I had all the ammo on my character. They don't mess with Power Armor that don't have Fusion Cores so why mess with weapons that have no ammo?

So yes settlers will take your stuff. I have come up with only two ways to stop this. Don't let settlers into your home base. Or store the stuff you don't want settlers messing with some where like Vault 81 or Home Plate where there are no settlers at all. Actually that can be summed up in one solution. Keep the sticky fingered settlers away from your goodies!

I personally use the castles armory . i put in a lot of boxes to store my stuff . put everything that i need and more ( including bobblehead stand , power armor station and all craft benches including 3-4 sets of power armor /power armor husksin there too) and then i walled that room off and put a spawn mat there . that being after ive competed everything around the castle it self, it worls for a fortress of solitude

Finally started building up Hangman's Alley last night. I hadn't previously realized just how close that place is to Diamond City! I got there on the roofs!

After killing the mutants on the western side (think it is western) of Diamond City I somehow got up on the roof tops there and was able to go all the way to Hangman's Alley without coming down.

That got me thinking: "how cool would it be to build up Hangman's Alley as tall as you can and have stair cases that allowed you to easily walk on top of the surrounding buildings!?"

I tried building up a bit, but I kept getting that "leaving build mod" once I got up to a certain height. Is there any way around this? A console command or an .ini file I can change maybe? Has anyone built up an extensive multi-level Hangman's alley settlment?

I was able to make a staircase up there. Couldn't do much though and scrapped it.

My personal recommendation to you is atop one of the overpasses. It is very flat up there, and you can build whatever you like. I have chosen Finch Farm's Overpass.

Settlers DO sometimes get up there, even though the only way up I have permitted is via fast travel. Every once and a while, one of the Finches will be up there sitting at my bar, or watching my TV. Usually, though, they are on the ground and remain there. One time, ALL of the Finches were up there when I arrived. They all immediately got up and started going down stairs (I have a 6 story structure on top of the overpass - the view is breathtaking)

I was able to build up to the fire escape on the south side of the alley (either south or west . . . the side above the work bench), but then realized that that fire escape is a dead end.

Whenever I tried to build any higher I got kicked out of build mode.

Me too. I was pretty excited by the prospect. But, alas.

Ditto on Hangman's Alley. Tried but failed. However, that was before I found out about a mod that lets you "Build In Red", or outside allowed areas. I have not ~tried~ this mod yet but I wonder if it would be possible to use it to get up to the rooftop, which would then give you Thieves' Highway access across the city! There's another mod that lets you place working elevators up to, I think, six stories. It may be possible to place such an elevator with the "base" as high up as the game will let you, which might make the top floor rooftop level. Not sure if the game objects to ~any~ part of an object being in the red, or just the "base" of the object being in the red.

Well despite the temptation, I think I'll hold off on any mods till they are "GECK made."

I have noticed that in some cases it is possible to place objects that are either partially or wholly outside the green area. And then other times, inexplicably, you cannot build INSIDE the green area!
