Okay so I finally did the main quest to get to the inside the Institute.

A couple of things.. The quest to get Biometric Scanner to build that damn device is busted. Told me where to go and it wasn't there so I had to look for another location. So time wasted on that.

But I got it working and now I am in the Institute. I am told to go on the elevator. Okay so I go on it. I go down a hallway and find Shaun locked in a room. There are two other doors that are locked and I need a key. I can't open them and I can't talk to Shaun. I can't do anything. I Listen to Father talk on my way to that area. I expect to have him walk into the room. So I stand there for 20 minutes waiting for something, anything to happen. So I thought I would try the wiki, and ruined the main story for myself.

Anyways is this bugged, what if anything do I got to do to move this freaking thing along? The quest just tells me to get into the elevator and I already did that.

What platform are you playing on?

I went down the main one. Then I went down the hall took another plat form and found shaun. Can't do anything there so I went back to the main one and I can't do anything there.

Reload a previous save. Once you talk to Shaun you are supposed to be greeted in person by someone form the Institute.

You might need to fiddle a bit to get a dialogue with shaun. I had a similar problem when I first went there

Are you sure you can't talk to him? You need to walk right up to the glass.

Yeah you should be able to talk to Shaun. If not, then something's bugged out.

svcks because its probably the worst possible time too. The climix of the Shaun story arc (sorta).

I reloaded it and tried again. I walked around facing the glass longer this time to see if that would help. I think it might have had something to do with my helmet covering my face

Once I took it off I was able to talk to him and got things moving.

Still annoying.

In my search to figure out what the was going wrong I ruined it for myself. Read some spoilers my mistake. So yeah very bad time for the game to crap out on me or for Bethesda to decide wearing something that covers my face would prevent conversation for the first time in the game.

Oddly I was wearing power armor when I talked to Shaun first.

Not sure why wearing a mask would do it. Very stange (and unfortunate) bug. Don't worry though, there's still a twist or two more (assuming you didn't get spoiled on those as well).

I am hoping for some more twists. I got the Minute Men to help me out.

I don't like synths and something about Shaun is bugging me after talking to him agreeing to give things a chance. I spoiled the first twist about "Father." I stopped myself some learning anything more.
