Ressource cache list

Post » Mon Jan 11, 2016 7:32 pm

Ever run out of a ressource and went on a wild hunt for coffe mugs?

Ever stumbled across a location with 900000 desk fans?

Look no further, this post is for you!

Post your favorite ressource stocks trough the commonwealth here! Post the name of the place as well as the general location (map helps), along with the object in question as well as the looked components (eg hot plates for screws, duct tapes and wonder glues for adhesive, etc).

And to no further ado, the list! (ooooooooooh)

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
That's all for now, but i want YOU to help me help the community! Feel free to post any other ressource areas below and i will add them as soon as i can visit them myself.
Special note: i have no plans in adding adhesive caches, since you can just make it anyway. (if you do not know how to, search vegetable starch).
I will not organize the list by material, as it would consume too much time and require listing places several times, without enough info on each one.

The resources you need the most are wood, steel, copper, and oil, in that order. Trees are everywhere, so wood is not a concern. Copper can be scrapped from pipe rifles, and oil can be crafted. But steel has to be salvaged the hard way: running around looting junk. Sadly, I'm up to level 60 and have found no magic locations to get steel. Yes, you can scrap steel from settlements, but you can only do that once. Even in big places like Corvega Assembly and the likes, you get maybe 100-200 steel each time you go there, which is barely enough to build even one settlement with only wooden structures.

I just have a bunch of settlement's with junk venders and I just basically swap the very farmable and readily available purified water for all their junk. Oil can still be a problem though.

Tag Bone & Acid to make Cutting Fluid (another use for purified water than selling it). Problem solved.

A better explanation of how the TAG system works would make much of these discussions unnecessary.

(I bet this is getting moved to spoilers...)

Might I respectfully suggest that this list be organized by material instead of location? I know, we all have Ctrl-F but it will be a much neater list that way.

Oil can be scrapped from cutting fluid, which can be crafted with purified water, acid, bones, and steel. Purified water is automatically and regularly put into your workbench if you have more water than settlers, so you can end up with a lot of purified water over time. Acid is found in abraxo cleaner so it is ubiquitous. Bones are a bit less frequently found, and you need 8 bones just to make a cutting fluid that gives only 3 oil. I know there are oil cans and stuff where you can get free oil, but from my experience that's not enough. You need to craft cutting fluid at some point, or buy oil from the few vendors that sell it.

Bone can be irritating to find in large quantities. I always, always pick it up while walking around.

YOU LIE! For the last 20 hours I have been picking up ever mop, plunger (ect ect) I could find!

Edit: Meant that as a joke. I have a tendency to build a lot so I'm usually plum out of wood. Always pick up clip boards. It helps a lot and weighs very little.

The common stuff - wood, steel, rubber, ceramic - are not much of an issue after you get a couple of settlers manning scrapping stations.

I have had scavenging stations in several settlements for a while now, but they don't seem to help that much. Steel and wood, unlike most other elements, are needed by the hundreds. You build a single house, even a wooden one, and you use up 100-200 steel already. Not to mention, a lot of furniture, containers, defense structures, etc., need steel. There are so many trees that I still haven't scrapped all of them. Yet there aren't nearly as many scrappable steel items. You just have to get steel the hard way by looting buildings over and over.

That fella at diamond city who is seemingly obsessed with baseball sells shipments of wood pretty cheap.

I build mostly wooden houses, but even so, I'm often left with twice as much wood as steel. I can't imagine building steel houses, which would use twice as much steel as wood.

There are quite a few car junkyards out there, but sadly none of them is a settlement. Otherwise I would have a field day scrapping all that steel.

That is what I have heard. Crazy enough, I have 100+ hours and have yet to step into Diamond City. I have a problem...I know.

Corvega has a huge supply of Aluminium inside Coolant Caps.

You may find yourself short on Cork (Antique Globes and Baseballs) or Leather (hides, gloves and Teddybears, oddly enough) once you start making Polymer Combat Armor mods.

Four leaf fishpacking plant also has a great source of aluminum trays.

Medford memorial hospital and Med tek research are a good source of fiber optics in the microscopes that are quite common inside, and the two locations are fairly close together.

For bones I hunt deathclaws. 1-2 can be found using the tower in Lyne woods, 2 can be found on a hill west of Hopesmarch Pentacostal church, on a hill with wrecked metal crates and highway, 2 at the bottom of the map between sentinel sight and rocky cave, one in the decayed reactor, and 1 at the fast travel point for the forgotten church. a deathclaw run provides 40 bone, decent exp, and you can avoid having to deal with all the insects that inhabit the glowing sea.

You can't buy love, but you can buy wood from Connie Abernathy, Green in greygarden, and Moe in DC all in 1 game day.

Note also the junk merchant in DC runs 2 shifts each with it's own inventory, good place for steel.
