Companion Combat Specialities

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 3:13 am

I am trying to equip my companions with appropriate armor and weaponry, but can't seem to find any information about what they're best at.

I've discovered that MacReady prefers a sniper rifle (fine) although he's great with a laser rifle as well.

I would have assumed that cage-fighting Cait would have been good melee, but, no, someone said she prefers shotguns?

I've read that Strong is great at melee (as his perk indicates), but, what about heavy weapons?

I'm actually looking for a good companion for missile launchers and fat boys, but am at a bit of a loss.

Any advice?

Danse for heavy weapons I think?

Although, X6 is still my favorite

Strong likes Melee, heavy weapons and tolerates rifles (not pistols though)

It could be worthwhile equipping them with every weapon type and ammo; the weapon they use the most would be there ideal weapon.

My Valentine has a fully modded version of Kellogg's weapon. Works like a dream. He's deadly.

Whatever category their default weapon falls under is probably a safe bet. Don't think any of them except maybe Strong or Danse "specialize" in heavy weapons, but unless you've got Inspirational it's very ill-advised to give them any explosives.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. Fortunately I do have inspiration, that's the only reason I would even consider it.

I finally had to take away Mac's Molotavs until I got it 'cause he kept trying to burn me alive! Some boyfriend. :)

CRAP. Just the thought of one of my companions with a AOE weapon like a missile launcher or fat boy gives me a heart attack. Just imagine the collateral damage as they nuke radroaches.

I would definitely leave companions with non-AOE weapons.

I would like a list of what weapon the companions 'pull out' when you don't arm them with anything. I know Cait uses the double barrel shotgun, Piper the 10mm, Vic a pipe pistol. Just trying to build on those would make sense, but unfortunately they only get free ammo with their default weapon. If I give Cait a modded up Combat Shotgun she needs ammo to go with it.

Good thought, although that means I will never use my kick-a** AOE weapons. I have a fully modded Fat Man and a 4 missile launcher that, frankly I'll never use 'cause I just don't have the carrying capacity for them.

Oh well. Thought they'd be useful in some of the bigger battles coming up.

Actually, it might be fun to see Strong annihilate some other Supers one of these days! Bet he'd actually enjoy it. :)
