SPOILERS! Quest The Secrets of Cabot House - jogging?

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 6:20 am

Hello,

just finished the part before (Emogene Takes a Lover), and arrived in Cabots House.

Now Jack wants us to go to the asylum.

Question: Is it really necessary to _follow_ Jack across half the world?? He runs slower than my character, but faster than my character walks. So its a constant stop and go. (May be with a console controller this is different). Also - there are a lot of encounters on the way, not too hard, but annoying. It takes ages to get there.

But when I fast travel to avoid the silly jog, he is not there, but seems to continue without me - so instead of the silly jog I have a silly wait (without bed or chair).

Is this really necessary? Who designed this nonsense? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Yes, you can just fast travel there, but you do have to wait for him to actually walk there (he does not teleport.)

There are chairs around to use.

Who designed the passage of time? Well, the universe, I guess. ;)

Thanks for the hints - I will look for the chairs. I still think that such things are sloppy quest design, since they are just annoying and give nothing to the games experience.

The passage of time - well, FT does take time, can be several in game hours! It is not instantaneous!

So it is a bit illogical, that Jack is not with me, when I FT. FT is not teleport, never was. It always advanced time in the game, in FO3 too. If you FT over large distances, and start early in the morning it can well be late evening when you arrive.

There are a lot of problems with this damned FT, always were...

Your following him, he's not following you so it DOES make sense that he doesn't FT with you. As far as FT being a teleport, well it is supposed to represent the passage of time but it is quite literally a teleport to another location.

Then why does the clock move so much?

Hmm, mine arrived very soon after I arrived after FT, like 30 seconds or so. I just looted a few of the bodies while waiting for him to arrive. Once I was ready to head into the asylum he was waiting for me.

Don't confuse gameplay with engine mechanics.

For the sake of gameplay FT calculates how long it would take to walk(not jog or run) and advances the clock the calculated amount.

Now forget about what you see in the game. This is just what is actually happening within the code. When you see a loading screen your player character is being teleported to another location within the same world space, to a new world space or an interior world space. When people say the player or an NPC are being teleported it's not within the narrative of the game(unless it is, "relaying") but rather people are referring to what is literally happening to that game asset.
