I want to do this, rather badly. Specifically, I want to use console commands to skip End of the Line. Because if I'm going to be the director of the Institute, I can end the policy of enslaving synths, and if I do that, the Railroad has no reason to fight the Institute anymore. And therefore, since Shaun is dying of cancer right now, my ascension will be coming shortly. So it should be well within my power to talk my way out of having to do this quest; however, since that's not an option in-game, it seems like a perfectly fair roleplaying decision to use the console to wriggle out of it. The Brotherhood, fine, they hate synths on principle and won't stop coming after the Institute, but we don't have to fight the Railroad.

Making those kind of wide ranging changes will not happen overnight or you would probably be facing a coup and just because you did a few missions for the railroad they don't seem the type to just let up. While I don't think peace is all that possible I do wish we would have been at least given a chance. My first time through I ignored most of what Father said to me but my latest time through the Institute's fate was already set by the time Pinned quest comes up.

Whether they let up or not is irrelevant; they're not an existential threat to the Institute without my help, and by the same token, I have no objections to letting the Railroad run wild if the Institute is still enslaving synths. Time is absolutely on my side; I can wait out both the Railroad and the conservative members of the Institute.
