He used the Elder Scroll to bring his name back into history because of the curse Nocturnal http://www.imperial-library.info/book_daedra/index1.shtml#nocturnal that he wears; when he uses the Scroll, his name returns into history.

OK, so, let me clue you in: the elderscrolls dont mean anything :P

the glyphs in the background are repeated in lines. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 5, 7, 6, 2, 7, 1, 3, 2, 4, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, where the first line of symbols is '1' etc. (the exact order may be off slightly, i did it in a hurry a long time aro). 17 circled symbols probably correspond to daedra, 8 not circled to aedra. together they align to the Thief constellation , a lame (imho) reference to the nature of the quest.

[edit] of course dev laziness can be made to mean something... but i gave up on that.

It's a big drawing of The Thief constellation. I can hear the artist's chuckles from here.

Well, if you wanna find out what the elder scrolls say, sift through the files on the game's disc ;) the game disc, in a way, IS the elder scrolls. it contains all the history of the game world, the people of the game world, the game world...everything!

There don't happen to be enough characters to make a font out of it. In case you're really bored?

there happen to be around enough i think, i have yet to count. since half the letters are simply rotated versions of others i'd make lower case normal and uppercase rotated.

Ew... thank god that's not true.

It's a universe, not a series, and a videogame virtual reality will always be a two-bit knockoff compared to the virtual reality of creative literature. The game is just a dramatization.

Very cool.

Just give them a longer look. You'll see that some letters are rotated versions of other letters and then you'll see that whole groups of letters are just turned around. It's a quick way to fill in a paper with a semi-random pattern. You use all characters and then you copy them all, flip them 180 degrees and paste them down.

Lady Nerevar's Guide to Understanding the Elder Scrolls:
  • make sure your vision is sufficiently svck. this can be achieved by doing the following point in dim light.
  • read the craziest mind bending metaphysical stuff you can come across until your brain is filled to the brim with incomprehensible knowledge. actually understanding some of it is a big plus.
  • stare at the scroll until the symbols make way before you and you see the shadows of a world not yet corporeal and yet more real than your own talking back to you from across the page.
  • pass out (make sure you dont accidentally zero-sum).

I take a different approach. I consider the written lore to be documentary evidence, while the actual game events (with a little creative thinking to strip out the "gamey" elements, such as the specific actions of a specific player character, experience levels and other numerical representations of ability, geographic scaling) to be actual observational evidence. It isn't any less valid than the conventional method (it is just a game, after all), but it is more fun, to me; not to mention the more conventional interpretation seems (to me) to mirror a similar real-world practice I consider to be an abominable error.
