The seven curses--reexamined

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 8:31 pm

there are still three unknown curses that are mentioned in the seven curses prophecy Curse-of-ghost, curse-of-seed, and curse-of-despair. I will attempt to annalyze diffent text to determine what these curses are.

Curse-of-ghost

This I believe has to do with ghost fence. This curse is caused by the tribunal trying to maintain the blight within red mountain. this is a curse because the dunmer have to sacrifice part of the soul of the dead who the dumer worship. It has been stated that a great many souls were sacrificed to maintain the great ghost fence.this is stated in "ancestors and the dunmer" "With the vast majority of ancestors' remains going to strengthen the Great Ghostfence around the mountain of Dagoth Ur"

curse-of-seed

This curse is more obsure. but I believe that it has something to do with nothing can grow around the blight. I'm not quite sure. but seed is also mentioned in another prophecy called "The lost prophecy". They could have something to do with each other.

curse-of-despair

I believe that this curse has to do with the ppl begining to doubt their gods. The reason for this is from the document dagoth ur's plans when it states "The inner circle of the Temple priesthood has begun to suspect the Tribunes have suffered seriously from wounds and demoralization in the wake of reverses at Red Mountain, but do not recognize the scale of the problem."

Refecences that I used
Dagoth ur's plans
The lost prophecy
The seven curses
Ancestors and the dunmer

I thought of that a while back, and then I got owned by someone who knows a lot more about lore than me, they said that it was likely the ash creatures, or was it the dreamers? I forget, but at any rate, basically they are empty shells, and that's why they were called ghosts

curse-of-seed

probably.

the seed in the lost prophecy is, I'm guessing, a sign of a certain part of morrowind...
Not guar, nor rat, nor seed, nor harrow
but dragon born and far star marked.

Dragon born means from the empire, in other words, an outlander.

curse-of-despair

I believe that this curse has to do with the ppl begining to doubt their gods. sounds good to me.

Poetically, "seed" can also mean "descendants". So it could be a curse on the fertility of the people as well as the land.

For the undercurious, perhaps it explains why there are no children in Morrowind.

Bit of a tongue and cheek moment. Regardless I think the same

No offense, as always, but that whole "no children in Morrowind" thing is just....it's incredibly boring to me...

Did the curse hit Cyrodiil too? Why don't they have children??

I cant do anything more then agree with 946000, it's so old and boring. Game mechanics for the win.

The reason for the lack of children visible in Morrowind and Oblivion is due to a player being able to slay NPCs, and allowing a game to hit the market where someone could hack down NPC children (even accidentally) was simply too morbid to permit.

Thus Bethesda chose to eliminate showing children in these games.

That being said, the official lore is that there ARE children in both Morrowind and Cyrodiil, thus one must simply rely upon one's imagination to supply these non-visible "young'uns".

As a side note, children were not the only things removed from the visible and interactable worlds. Toilets were also removed, if you recall. Why? Because no one wanted to waste the precious disc space on crap like that. (Pun intended. :shifty: )

So yes, there are children. Yes, there are toilets. Yes, there are [OBSCURED TO MORTALS]...you just have to [OBSCURED TO MORTALS] to come to grips with it.

For what it's worth, congratulations!

Oh, well I wasn't technically asking, but making a point. Thanks regardless.

And this is probably the first time (in a long time) that it clicked in my head that there are no toilets....

I need to stop sniffing nail polish remover.... need to go back to markers....

For the record, while Morrowind and Oblivion do not have visible children, Daggerfall did, and I suspect Arena and Redguard did, as well.
