Someone please explain clothing defense to me

Post » Wed Jan 13, 2016 9:19 am

So, I am messing around with some clothing items and adding the ballistic weave mod to them. While I was doing this I took an item the had a base defense of 0 on ballistic, and 0 on energy. So when I added ballistic weave MK5 and added 110 defense I was not surprised to see 22 next to each of my characters body parts on the apparel screen on the pip boy (I mean 110 divided by 5 right). So I find my self a little confused when I do the same thing to the greaser jacket and jeans and I get different numbers. When I add the 110 that the ballistic weave provides to the clothing item with 0ballistic and 5 energy I would expect to get something a little different. But what I got was 44 on the characters arms and torso, and 22 on the legs, which does not add up right to me. Can someone explain to me what I am missing?

It doesn't matter what the numbers next to the little toon say. Assuming that the damage formulas published in the wiki are correct, the total armor number is used no matter which body part you hit. That means there is no detriment to not wearing a helmet if your total resistance is otherwise high enough. (Which explains Danse to some extent...)

Well, 44 on arms, 44 on torso and 22 on legs does = 110 total. I did not know that hit-locations did not matter, though. I never wear a helmet because, hey, look at me ( ^_^ ) so I'm glad if that IS the case. If you get a body part crippled, it seems like you can just hit a Stimpak and don't have to click on the actual body part that is crippled (as was the case in previous games). For that matter, I am not sure the paper-doll under Status actually listed individual damage to limbs at all.

You can wair armor on the legs but not the arms and chest so it has lower values for the legs.

I mean 44 on each arm, 44 on torso, and 22 on each leg, 44+44+44+22+22=176.

As for the defense being lower on the legs because you can wear armor there, that doesn't add up when I have a another clothing item with the same stats come out 22 on each limb after adding ballistic weave, regardless of whether or not i can wear armor over it.

I mean if you say the individual stats have no affect on defense, then what are they? Because my clothing defense is 110, so why is it adding up as 176?

Big assumption as that is 100% player controlled data.

can anyone explain to me why the limbs on the toon guy on my pip boy add up to 176, when my defense is 110?
