Endgame faction choice

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 11:14 pm

Okay, I am working on a character that is finally going to finish the game (had a hard time getting into it), and need some help choosing which faction I am going to go with endgame. This character is what I would call an operative (Star Wars mmo subclass of the imperial agent class) focused on stealth and some sniper training.

Backstory

Lillian was born in Boston in 2052 to a family who worked for the Government's Intelligence Agency. Other than her father being away for a while, her childhood was a normal one. During high school, she was a cheerleader and met her future husband, Nate. She managed to keep her grades rather decent, but never passed with flying colors.

When she was 18, she ended up getting snatched up by the same intelligence agency that her father worked for, and taught to be a spy and assassin for 3 years. During her training, she learned some seduction skills and practiced them on members of both genders. She also was trained in sniping and subterfuge with silent guns rather than focusing on melee assassination, though still trained in melee combat for last resort. She also studied law in her free time, and ended up utilizing much of what she learned after managing to be "released" into the Boston area. Her most recent assignment was to pretend to be in the neighborhood of Sanctuary Hills to report on any possible communist sympathizers. She ended up marrying Nate and having a son, Shaun. Then the bombs fell.

Reason I am asking, is mostly because of armor. The endgame faction will determine what her final armor set will be:

  • If Institute, armor will be synth uniform with synth armor over it or courser outfit.

  • If BoS, BoS uniform and combat armor (maybe BoS, maybe shadowed).

  • If RR, Armor is Vault suit with heavy shadowed leather armor.

  • If MM, just whatever I can find.

  • Note: All modular armor will modded ultra-light for chest and arms, muffled for legs.

None of this is probably important, but the information may help out a bit. Main weapons are stealth and rifle.

RR offers the ballistic weave...but you don't have to side with them end game..however IMO the RR seem to be more of the stealthy covert type of all the factions...might suit your character more to stick with them idk..

RR is probably the most stealth-encouraging faction as far as missions go, but their soldiers are pretty heavily armored. MM, well they're basically your faction but their soldiers have good laser muskets yet no armor.

With those types of skills might be best to be on a BoS recon team.

Well, if you are going to RP, the institutes teleport technology might fit into a stealth/sniper thing. They also do lots of infiltration and spying etc..

If you just want gameplay choices, then RR would be the stealthiest one probably.

Either way, vertibirds and PA of the BoS typically don't go well with stealth.

1) I would not use Sniper as in the traditional sense here. More like precision shooting, which can be done with a sniper rifle as well.

2) The bold is a good point. that is one reason I am torn, but then again, the BoS do have members who do not wear power armor. Plus I am certain that they do have some sort of stealth unit or something, otherwise what good are they?\

Overall, I think BoS if I want to go full on military, or Railroad to utilize stealth, since I am not just that into the institute sterile white look.

There is a power armor upgrade you can craft that puts a stealth buff on you if you are not moving so it is possible to sneak around in PA. I have done it at night and as long as I don't move or fully unload a clip the AI usually can't find me. Sneaking through a building doesn't work so well but is possible.

From a game mechanics point of view, yes, definitely possible. Drains AP like crazy from what I have read though. But from a RP view, I just can't bring myself to accept that PA can be anything close to stealthy.

Guess I should explain it a bit better. Stealth is a tool, but she would also be capable in "normal" combat if she got caught. She tries not to get caught however.

You best bet then would probably be ballistic weave underclothes, with darkened armor on top. Increases stealth in dark areas, but has decent combat ability. I find with ballistic weave on the underclothes you can still rock leather armor and be very well protected. So RR seems like the best fit there. They have specially modified stealthboys too which I think last a bit longer.

Well, the thing is I really haven't fleshed out her motivations other than finding Shaun. For all I know, she may dislike the Railroad because she may think they are idiots. Plus, considering that the ballistic weave can be gotten without actually joining the railroad endgame. Besides, it did not really plan on the Ballistic weave since my armor will probably consist of vault suit under heavy leather armor if I go RR with her.

All I know right now is that she is not that big on science (non-hacking kind anyways) and eggheads, so the institute is out.

They are all much of a muchness with the exception of the Brotherhood of Steel. They keep sending out Virtibird and foot patrols which really interfere with gameplay. I found it too annoying.

Thanks for the help, everyone, but right now, I think I will put this on the back burner and work with some of the factions to see where that takes her for now. Maybe she would end up preferring the BoS and side with them end game. May just join that recon group just to see how it goes, or whatever.

So, decided to try this, her perception of the factions as she meets and works with them. So far:

  • BoS: She does not really know them, but what Danse said, about them wanting to keep technology out of the hands of those who would destroy the world (for a second time) made a lot of sense to her, considering her world was blown to bits by idiots who had too much power and not enough brains to use that tech responsibly.

  • Minutemen/Garvey: Likes the ideals of the MM, but at the time does not feel like she has what it takes to be the leader of the group.

Will update when I meet the other two main factions.

Well based on armor you picked, the RR looks the best IMO. I loved that setup. But BoS isn't bad either and you wouldn't be working for the RR nut jobs. Seriously I just finished a RR playthrough and while I suggest everyone try every faction, those people were just nuts.

I tried to pick armors that I felt fit the factions, mainly. That is all the armors really are. Plus, I planned to mod armors all with Ultra-light builds and muffled legs, and have about 4/5 sneak, so...

That doesn't sound like you will get along with the BoS either since they are all about old world tech. I would suggest the minutemen but I have a hard time convincing myself they are any kind of relevant.

What I meant was more along the lines of she does not really care for the scientific pursuits of working on tech, nor does she really care that much about the scientists who work on the stuff. For her, a good rifle is a good tool, high-tech or not.

But I decided to try and redo her. This time around, she is not that big/does not really care about things like biology/chemistry (she was not trained in that stuff) but things like technological equipment, she can handle. Perk list just for fun.

Combat/damage perks:

  • Rifleman: Well, we plan to use a very precise energy rifle, so having bonus to damage with them is kind of important.

  • Big Leagues: when caught in melee, or when ammo is short.

  • Demolition Expert: Mainly for those times when efficient killing with a rifle is not going to work.

  • Ninja: boosting that first hit, for efficient killing

Crafting perks:

  • Armorer: Obvious, defense will be needed this time around.

  • Science: high tech mods, Will start boosting once I pick up intelligence bobblehead.

Other perks:

  • Awareness: Gonna RP this not as vats, but as implants in her head allowing her to be able to find out what a target is weak to.

  • Medic: gonna say she has some medical training, but implants kind of block it out until the "perk" is unlock.

  • Hacker and Locksmith: Because part of her training is infiltration (3/4).

  • Black widow: Charm the pants off of guys (get them to do what she will want them to do).

  • Cap collector: Just because (2/3)

  • Sneak: For Ninja (4/5)

  • Action Girl: Endurance training/breathing exercises make her recover easier?

  • Chem Resistant: Maybe Implants make her less likely to feel addicted?

This part is just for me mainly. Main point is switch to use energy weapons for the more sci-fi/swtor imperial agent feel. Also combat is now simply put about efficiency (no need to waste more ammo than you need).

"Chem Resistant"

A drug user eh? I don't think that would be very popular in the BoS and if it isn't mentats the Institute might not be to keen either but hey if you get the job done stuff like that can be overlooked. But everything else says welcome to the BoS to me. Although in the RR you can pick a codename and charmer is one which works well with Black Widow. However I have at least 150 hours played and not once have I seen a black widow option in any conversation so really it is just a damage buff against males.

Black widow makes it easier to persuade men. It is more RP than anything else. Plus, Chems would be more in last ditch moments, and is also mostly for RP purposes.

Yeah that is what I don't like about the new dialog arrow thing I don't know when stuff like that is being used. So are you any closer to which faction you will pick? I think your character would be perfect to play each faction against each other but the game doesn't let you do that really.

Not really, but I wanted to create the character for now, to be open to all the factions, thinking that RR or BoS would be best, but also the MM would be open to it, though not really having been in a leadership position might be a problem.

Preston doesn't care about your lack of leadership qualities. Anybody is a step from him and he admits it.

It is more of a from her perspective thing. She is a good combat specialist, but a political leader/general of an organization? Her brain says no. Over all, this is hard, so I plan to hold off on this for now.
