No ArmorClothing Weight ?

Post » Wed Jan 13, 2016 7:40 pm

I play without companions - even without Dogmeat - so I'm always trying to maximize my carrying capacity.

As such, I was trying to figure out which armor setup was best:

1. Adding the "deep pockets" mod to allow more carrying capacity.

or

2. Adding the "ultra-light build" mod to make armor lighter, and increase carrying capacity.

I assumed that armor and clothing affected your carry weight, because, well, they have weights listed for them, just like anything else. It's not a stretch to assume that if you put on 20 units-of-weight of armor, you should be able to carry that much less.

However, I just found out that armor and clothing don't count against your carrying capacity. Weird, but OK. So then, in my case, the "deep pockets" mod is the way to go.

So, then, what's the value of the "ultra-light build" armor mod then?

It says ultra-light weight and an AP bonus, but it seems as the AP is the only benefit. Anyone know if it is worth it?

If you're a hoarder the the deep pockets mod is more useful. The reduced weight of ultra-light doesn't weigh up against the added carry weight of deep pockets anyhow.

However, afaik equipped armour and clothing does count towards your carrying capacity?

Weird - my character's weight was unaffected when I dropped armor, but it seems related to a 3rd party mod I'm running - don't know which one yet though. With all mods disabled, armor is indeed affecting weight. That seems more like it!

You're right Houseparty. As a test, I noticed that the deep pockets mod added 20 units of carry capacity. Meanwhile, using an ultra-light build on the same chest piece (which is typically a heavy item) only yields 7.2 units of less weight.

So deep pockets is the better option, by quite a bit.

Thx for the input folks, and the reality check. I'll report back if/when I find out which mod was causing the issue.

I suggest you to use Ballistic Weave clothing if you want to preserve space.

Currently my capacity is really tight and Ballistic Weave is really helpful since it provides quite a lot for a light piece of equipment.

It'll also make sneaking easier, since that's directly affected by the weight of your worn clothing and armor.

Now that was confusing to read. By no means I am saying Phlegm wrote it wrong, seeing this else were as well. I just mean mod this mod that. Are we talking about modable weapons and clothing like consoles users can do, or are we talking about Mods that are on PC right now and maybe be on consoles later?

I think we need a new name for mods what we do to our weapons and gear since Mods for PC seems to be what we are use to. :)

In fairness, I did use "3rd party mod" to try to differentiate between the two. I take your point though.

Asbestos lining (chest armor only) and dense (any metal armor) armor mods are worth sacrificing carry weight especially when you can just use lone wanderer and strong back to make up for it.

Edit: fixed my spelling, sorry I am not perfect guys.

Ultra light seems to be a percentage reduction, so the heavier things like chest pieces I will tend to go that route for the increased sneak. Arms and legs get pockets.

That misspelling of Asbestos is just painful to look at. XP

As for the value of Ultra-Light, its biggest draw is it's reduced weight. Stealth characters like it for pieces that can't get Muffled, since equipped armor affects Carry Weight. Power Armor users like it because it allows them to get a particular look when out of their Power Armor without using up as much carry capacity. That sort of thing. That said, when looking at overall carry capacity, the Deep-Pocketed mod will provide more overall benefit than the Ultra-Light mod, unless the Ultra-Light mod drops the weight by more than 20. And I'm not aware of any single armor piece that weighs over 20 pounds, so it's pretty much outmatched by the Deep-Pocketed mod.

Ha! I had to read that first spelling 3 times too. Felt proud of myself that I eventually came away with Asbestos.

Between "deep pockets" and "ultra-light", I would choose deep pockets. Each piece of armor that has the deep pocket mod will allow you to carry an extra 10 weight; max of 50. Ultra-light is a good option if you are heavily reliant on using VATS.

I do not use VATS as much as I did in Fallout 3 so for me deep pockets is my preferred choice since I am a hoarder.

It's also better if you are heavily reliant on using sneak. Much easier to sneak in lighter armor.
