Mercer Safehouse Enquiry

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2016 3:43 pm

In relation to the Mercer Safehouse, I read a numerous of forums online that the safehouse location is random. However, I would like to understand how random it is because I have started the Railroad character for about 4 days now, I have turned off my PS4 and went to sleep and work when required. Even after all those restarts and in different stages of the game, my Mercer Safehouse location is still STUCK on the Red Rocket Tuck Shop. Every time I speak to PAM, it would give me the same location, as if it has no other choice. My question is how do I force it or get around it to give me a different location. I absolutely love the Red Rocket Tuck Shop and I only want it to be my private home, not a settlement.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Uh...secure the Red Rocket Truck Stop FIRST, and build a settlement at it, and the Mercer Safehouse will always be a different location.

Yeah, I thought that it would be my only choice, to build a settlement and force PAM to give me another location. I will probably force those settlers in my Red Rocket Tuck Shop to Sanctuary or something after.

Thank you for confirming.

I lucked out, mine ended up being in Hangman's Alley so when the Brotherhood starts cleansing the Commonwealth of it's filth the Mercer Safe house is bound to get caught in the crossfire.

The Mercer Safehouse mission only requires that you build 10 Defense. You're not required to actually get settlers. I would try going to Red Rocket, building a few turrets, then go turn in the mission. Once you have done that, head back to Red Rocket, dismantle the turrets, then send any settlers that may have shown up to other settlements.

You don't need to have any settlers at the Red Rocket to get PAM to pick another location for the Mercer Safehouse, you just have to have built it up some. Build a bed, a house, some defenses, send a companion to hang out there, and then go to PAM to get the Mercer mission and she'll pick another location. No settlers are required at Red Rocket.

If you DO make Red Rocket a safe house, even if you send any settlers away, you'll still get an NPC that will show up and won't leave.

What happens if you already have all the settlements before you get this quest?

Don't know. Sounds like an interesting experiment.

In the couple times I've played through my "mercer's safehouse" has always been at either then starlight drive in, or hangmans alley. I think it just picks one of the settlements that can be cleared on behalf of the faction you have chosen to be a part of, and as such is not set in stone.

There are at least a few spots that have workbenches that we can't make a settlement (or least I have never been sent to them). One that I know of is up north near the beach, slightly NW of the lighthouse. All it is is a destroyed house and a barn. If there is more to that spot than just the RR I have never been sent there and I have done a lot of those quests for Preston.

My Mercer "safehouse" was in the middle of a swamp, at a construction site. Safe! Except from Mirelurks.

All of my safe house were the same swamp, wow didn't even know it was random. Eye opener. 4 play-through. First rushed, and the other 2 are setup for dlc where I didn't even meet Preston but had to get that ballistic weave which is how I have the safe-houses. The Professor twice, Wander, and Whisper codename, screw the Railroad for screwing me out of better locations!

Late White Rabbit - I have already built an awesome house in Red Rocket Tuck Shop (beds, defense, food, water and companions etc) before asking the question in this forum because I thought the same way, if the system recognizes that I have already built something there, it would select another settlement. However, it doesn't work.

As I have mentioned earlier, I tried having settlers during Xmas to see if it forces the system to select another, it still doesn't.

At this point, I really don't know how to make PAM to change its mind.
