>There is a HP Lovecraft story called "Out of the Aeons", which features the Cabot Museum of Archaeology, housed in a private mansion, and located in Boston's Beacon Hill district.
>The Cabot House in Fallout 4 is a private mansion located in the Beacon Hill district of Boston.
>The first curator of the museum in Lovecraft's tale was a man named Pickman. This connects to another Lovecraft story called "Pickman's Model", which tells of a Bostonian artist who drew such terrible imagery he got thrown out of his art club.
>Just up the street from Cabot House in Fallout 4 is a place called Pickman's Gallery, a place were a serial killer named Pickman makes painting depicting varius horrible things, as well as using raiders and others he has killed for human art.
>Pickman's art galley in the Lovecraft story was located in Boston's North End district.
>Pickman's gallery in Fallout 4 is located in Boston's North End district.
He also features (as a ghoul) in The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath
I walked around the place, killing the raiders as I went. The entire time I'm thinking to myself, "This Pickman guy is a serial killer."
Probably one of the better moral debates that I've had in a game in recent memory. The story pulled me in to the point that I actually started to ponder what exactly this sort of monster would do in a world where my Minutemen were beginning to get rid of all the raiders he liked to play with.
Double tap to the head.
What will I do when I run out of raiders?
"A small disagreement. They objected to my hobby of collecting their heads." Best line ever! I was hoping we might see more of this guy in time to come. Very cool character with much potential.
Yeah the game is a bit heavy on the Lovecraft stuff, such as Dunwich Borers, which is a not so subtle reference to the short story The Dunwich Horror. I only caught that because I read the story like 15 years ago in highschool. admittedly didn't catch on to the Pickman stuff since Lovecraft actually isn't one of my favorite authors.
I like that even after, you occasionally come across dead raiders, with his calling card on them. Heh.
Yeah, that would've been awesome! Awesome companion material!
I was debating whether to shoot him (the "what happens when he runs out of Raiders" issue) or let him live (he's doing my work for me, sweet!). I let him live, but changed my mind shortly after and came back, but by then he was gone. I hope I'll run into him again and see how his art has progressed.
There should be so much more of this on FO4 =D
Yeah, the game's FULL of references like this. Lovecraft & Blade Runner are EVERYWHERE if you look closely.
I'm pretty sure "road leathers" are Mad Max's clothes, too.
He gets about a bit, I've found his calling cards out and about in wasteland. I'd love to have him as a companion.
I sure wasn't going to mess with anyone who could kill that many raiders with a knife!
