Parsons... Did you take a close look?

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 6:09 am

I was in the thread about the saddest things found in FO4, and it started me thinking about Parsons Institute. Then I started wondering how many people really looked closely as they went through it, given that the fight itself was highly distracting, and Jack seemed to give a sense of urgency that precluded sightseeing.

I've been through the place a couple of times previously, but on this playthrough, I could have sworn I heard a female voice in the cells that was screaming (albeit faintly through the gunfire) "Help! Let me out!". After the combat was over, I went through the place slowly and while I found no imprisoned living females, it was perhaps the most macabre, and saddest place I have ever visited. Not to mention the most mystifying.

Have you ever gone through the place slowly? If you have, it might be fun to discuss what you saw and your conclusions, eh?

Is it quest related? It seemed to require a key to get in. That's one place I don't think I ever got to explore. It looked huge too.

@Mikedzines, yes it's quest related, you'll get to it.

The place contained all the depression of any asylum, I'm surprised there weren't more computer logs, notes, etc, scattered around.

I never heard a voice because as mentioned, you did feel rather rushed to keep up with:

Spoiler
Jack Cabot, as you traversed the linear corridor shooter dungeon

Did go back through a second time to see what I missed though, examined a lot of the cells. Looking at the skeletons it looked like all hell broke loose at some point but never heard a voice. I only wished we had gotten more backstory to actually tell us about it.

Heh, I intended to look but I got sidetracked, and never got back to it. :)

One that I thought was very odd was the fisherman,

Spoiler
one of the cells, when you walk in you see a skeleton with a fishing pole. the fishing rod is stuck tip first in the toilet, and while that may be a little strange, what really kinda made me go "Ehhh?" was the metal bucket beside the dresser and the three skeletal fish on the floor beside it. :D

I also had to wonder if the original Silver Shroud was in one of the cells...

On my first playthrough I missed a lot of stuff because Jack thinks it's a good idea to fight (supposedly) drugged up raiders in a labcoat and armed with a pistol. On the second playthrough I explored every nook and cranny while doing the quest. Jack luckily doesn't run too far ahead. Although I didn't hear the voice in either playthrough.

I believe the voice you hear is in your head. Daddy's calling. That's how he gets the raiders there.

Welll, there is a lone cell that is operated by a terminal. If you could get inside the cell and somehow use the terminal to close the door, I suspect you could stay there undisturbed for a very long time... :)
