Screen keeps going black while audio continues

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 9:22 am

I'm trying to go through the Corvega factory, but every time I go into the indoor areas and start fighting, my screen goes black (and one time yellow, although that was just once), but the audio continues. A sound comes up like a windows error message has popped up, but nothing is showing up on screen. Neither Ctrl-Alt-Del and Alt-Tab do anything. The cord connecting the computer to the monitor is securely connected. I thought the GPU might be overheating, but it's only at 51*C which doesn't seem hot enough to mess things up to me, although I may be wrong.

As of writing this, my computer began to snooze, and pressing keys and moving the mouse are not waking the screen up. The sound, however, is still coming out.

Build:

Mobo - ASUS H17OM-E D3

GPU - ASUS GeForce GTX 980

CPU - Intel Core i5-6600k 6M Skylake

RAM - 12 GB Hyperx

OS - Windows 7

I hope I've given enough information.

Edit: It's my graphics card; it's malfunctioning. Thank you so much to everyone who tried to help though, I really appreciate it.

Could be a driver related issue.

Edit: Quick question: Why do you have 12GB of RAM on a Skylake system. Skylake is limited to Dual Channel Mode, so Either 8GB, 16GB or 32GB are usual configurations.

Post a dxdiag report, please.

Use the Search box or Run... box, type: cmd and press Enter.

In the command prompt, type:

dxdiag /t dxdiag.txt

and press Enter.

Now go to the %userprofile% directory (C:\User\), find the dxdiag.txt file. Open the file. Select All. Copy and Paste its contents here in a reply. Use the spoiler tags, by either using the following:

[spoiler] dxdiag text [/spoiler]

or by clicking the icon (Special BBCode) next to Font menu, and selecting 'spoiler'.

I do actually have 8GB of RAM; I copy/pasted a description of my rig that I hadn't properly updated, my bad.

Can you check your power management settings and tell us what they're set to?

Or graphics card drivers might be installed wrong.

Might be your monitor is malfunctioning rather than the computer actually going to sleep also.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/778-power-plan-settings-change.html

Might want to disable the monitor going to sleep,I had those problems in the past and they don't wake up even when the game is running.

I always set mine in balance but tweaked settings.

Most notable you need to change if you set in balance mode is change the following based on High performance plan.

Select the change power plane on the balance plan.

Turn off the dispay display= Off.

Put computer to sleep=Off

Go to the advance option and select the following:

Hard Disk Turn off disk=60 Mins or off you have problems with your hard drive waking up certain amount of time, some disk drives older ones have trouble booting up again when they turn off(sleep mode).

Sleep After=Never

Pci Express link-Off https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_State_Power_Management

Display=Never

Enable adaptive brightness=Off ( You might not have this option for window 7)

If computer is actually going to sleep check you're not wearing any magnetic bands (like a band for arthritis or clip on watch) or any magnets aren't near computer (under monitor or desk). Seen a few people fix their computer sleep issue by removing roaming magnets :3

Power is set to balanced; just reinstalled drivers for good measure.

The problem isn't happening unless I go into the Corvega cell. I spent a while building up the Hangman's Alley settlement and everything was fine, ditto just wandering around in the main world.

Are you sure it's not a powerdown issue? You said the computer turned itself off while you were typing your post and did the same thing (monitor dies, sound continues).

I would make sure all monitor powerdown options are set to off for a start.

Maybe your PSU isn't giving your GPU enough power also. What's your PSU? Might be something to look at if it isn't settings or drivers.

It seems to be a problem specifically with the Corvega Assemply Plant, or at least one room in it. Every time I go into a certain area, the screen screws up. Just now it went static, like an old TV. I think it must be a problem with the game at this point; everywhere else works fine as far as I can tell.

Edit: The issue has moved to my entire computer, so I'm gonna head over to Tom's Hardware, since it's probably not a Bethesda issue. Thanks for all the help everyone.
