Vault 81 quests

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 3:53 am

Hi all - I cannot seem to get to 2 of the on-going Vault 81 quests.

First, I can't find Calvin anywhere to start the Maintenance Man quest. Everyone mentions I can sell my tools to Calvin. Where should he be in the vault during normal "business hours?" I've spent over 24 hours in the vault checking every public as well as dweller room, and he is nowhere to be found.

Second, Dr Penske mentioned to bring her fertilizer. But every time I return to the vault, I can't have any interaction with her aside from the initial interact and then she says something. I have no other dialog options with her. I have bags of fertilizer in my inventory. I don't have the Fertilizer Woman quest active in my Pip-Boy or on the list of completed quests. But on an earlier interaction with her, before the secret area of the vault opened, she asked for fertilizer.

Any help with these is appreciated!!!

Calvin is confirmed bugged and disappears after you talk with him. Yeah.

Dr. Penske might be bugged too, or at least I have the same problem.

Oh, greeeeeeeeat. I guess I don't have to hang onto the 800 tools I've collected any longer then. Why didn't they fix those in the last update??? Oh well.

Thx!

I have the same issue with Calvin. I spoke to him already and sold him tools. Now when I went back to turn in a bunch more I found, he is there but replaced with the name "resident" and has no dialog options.

Then there is the teacher. I'm told she would love to have me visit her classroom. Every time I do she does nothing but comment on stuff but I don't get to tell a story like I have on previous play throughs.

And I hired Tara who really wanted out of the vault. But the quest hasn't progressed past "talk to Tara" after convincing her brother to go clean.

Most quests in Vault 81 seem bugged. It's like it's the last area they implemented and they rushed through it.

well if your on the pc (I am and this worked) I looked up his base id and did "153855. moveto player" which brought him to me. I was then able to turn in the tools.

Also Tina (not Tara) quest to cure her brother did conclude for me but she still won't come work for me despite agreeing to.

Yes - since I knew beforehand of the numerous bugs in Vault 81 (from the wiki) I did it yesterday without problems - I just wanted Curie as a follower.

If you never were in Vault 81, do this:

1) Use the switch to open the door. I won't open, but you have a dialog. There is an option to sweet talk your way into the Vault. Don't do this even if you can!!! It will trigger a nasty bug, which will disable your VATS and will not let you into the Vault. Agree to pay 3 fusion cores. (In the first quest you will get one back). Talk to the overseer and enter the Vault.

2) Important! If you see a gray cat named Ashes running by you - this is good, ignore the cat.

3) Walk further in and look around as much as you want. Talk to the two named NPCs in the entry area. After using the elevator you arrive in the Atrium. There a boy will ask you to take a tour and he will ask 5 caps. Agree, follow him, ask him what you want and wait until the tour ends. It is not long anyway and you get to know several people.

4) At the end of the tour the boy will introduce you to his girlfriend Erin. After this the tour ends. Now talk to Erin - she will tell you about her cat, which escaped. She will ask you to look for her, since nobody in the Vault is willing to follow her outside. Agree to this, and go outside. The cat is near the Vault and near the small lake. Got to the cat and send her home. She will set off immediately. Follow her back into the Vault, take your time a bit. The mini quest says talk to Erin. Do this, the cat should be nearby. If you did not ask for a reward beforehand you will receive a fusion core.

5) Next go to the Clinic, and see Dr.Forsythe. He will ask to take a blood sample from you. Let him.

These actions trigger the next quest. Forget the collect quests from Calvin and Dr.Peske. They do not work well. But the two small things above trigger the main quest. You can look around in the Vault a bit, but do not enter the Reactor room!

After this leave the Vault and do something else. It takes 24 hours or more for the next quest to start. So return to the Vault after some days.

If you go down to the Clinic, you should see Dr.Peske and Dr.Forsythe arguing - this is the quest in the Hidden Vault, where you need to find a cure for the molerat virus. At the end of two fairly small levels with a lot of molerats you will find the cure and Curie. (Do not forget to look around in the room where Curie is).

And it is possible to come through, kill all the molerats and not become infected. Hard, but possible, without cheating. I had to reload 3-5 times under way but it is possible. (Level 36, used Mines, Frag Grenades and my trusty Combat Rifle (semi automatic)). For lower level characters it will be much harder, since you have no weapon to one shot kill the darn rats. If you wish to try, prepare chems to slow the time and use VATS. I never use VATS, because I have ludicrous low hit rates even in 5-10 meters distance. I hit much better and faster with direct shots. Depends on your perks and build.

This entire area is very disappointing, I think. It's SO bugged, and so much is left unanswered (Like why is the one guy being a jerk to his wife and not wanting to do any work?) The whole plotline about the robot doing all the work is left hanging. I think this area should have been a source of radiant quests and a possible spot for a home base, but it was so poorly executed that it's just something you finish and never go back to.

Holt Combes is cheating on his wife with Tina... the robot's doing all of the work because Bobby's an idiot Jethead. Tina won't come to join you as a settler if you help Bobby beat his addiction - she's got dialog saying she's got no reason to leave any more, but yeah that dialog bugged for me and never appeared. Or, I never got the option at all to convince Tina or Holt to leave the vault and come work for me in the first place.

Oh, and if you complete Hole in the Wall they'll give you a room in the vault. No amenities but a bobblehead stand though.

How did you find out about the cheating? I scoured that place and ran all the quests it would give me. Lots of bugs, though, which might have prevented my full enjoyment.

Austin straight up tells you about it when he gives you the vault tour. Holt and Tina will also meet up in a storage room somewhere and hang out.
