Keep X6-88 While Betraying The Institute?

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2016 10:05 pm

Is there a way to do this? I've seen rumors, and it's listed on his wiki, but there's no detailed explanation.

Last night, I finished the Institute quests up to Mass Fusion, and then deliberately failed them to continue with the MM/BOS/RR ending. This activated Banished from the Institute. When I got back, Danse immediately starting shooting at X6-88. I ultimately killed X6-88, which I think indicates that he went hostile.

That was far as I could go with The Institute...

I sided with the institute to get him, you don't get him as a companion until you destroy all opposition.

If you betray the Institute, X6-88 is flagged as an enemy. There is no way around this.

I think he'll turn hostile if you become enemy with the Institute.

Nah, no need to actually destroy anyone.

I think you get him as a follower prior Mass Fusion quest (i had him with me there), right when there's the meeting with the heads and father appoints you as his successor.

Even because most its dialogues set around which consideration he had about your role within' the institute, before he gives you his perk.

Not true. I went with the RR and destroyed the Institute. X6-88 is out near the Libertalia. He's available to be my companion. Flagged as a friend.

Strange. xBAINx, did you ever use him as a companion prior to this? (Libertalia is where you first meet him for the Synth Retention quest.)

According to the Fallout 4 wiki:

"If the Sole Survivor is declared an enemy to the Insitute, X6 will become unrecruitable and will be hostile until he is killed. This can prove to be a problem if he was sent to a settlement, as he may engage the settlers."

I'm assuming it's just a bug that you're running into, then. Bethesda game and all, then.

Just right about to post the same question.

I'm on my playthrough 1.5, aiming for the same Minutemen ending and currently just finished Synth Retention.

X6 is a flat talker, but he's the only black dude companion who doesn't keep buzzing me about settlement. That's why I wanna keep him.

Not true, you can get X6 as a companion without betraying anyone.

Having said that, there are four faction related companions in game. Each of them is really, really, really, really displeased if you destroy their faction and are very hostile to the companion from the faction you sided with.

Except Danse who just doesn't talk at all after Blind Betrayal.

I expected him to either give the "I'm done with you" speech or attack me (Veronica in NV did this). Nope, silence. I'm thinking it must be a bug because other companions are downright hostile except for Danse in this case.

No I did not use him as a companion beforehand. And yes, he is at that spot where you start that mission. The wharf I believe it's called. I've only been by there once. I'll check again today.

I've also killed at least 25 coursers doing RR radiant missions. Surely word would have gotten out that I'm not a nice guy.

Or maybe he's scared that my character could kill him as well so he thinks it's best just to say nothing? I went with that reason in my RP. :P

Actually, with the situation that Envy describes, Danse owes the SS his life.

Therein lies your bug - the game doesn't properly account for a situation where one didn't do the first couple of Institute missions before siding against them, so it doesn't register X6 as an enemy. I'm pretty sure if you take him as a companion at that point he'll have the same dialog he has if you're still on good terms with the Institute. Bethesda.

i did the Libertalia mission. As well as Bunker Hill and those missions to get the power thingy working. Even got named the new director. So i did betray the Institute. No big deal. This is going to work out wonderfully. When I get tired of the RR, me and X6 are going to fast travel in there and F them up. Just like I did at the Third Rail when they didn't like me taking a Quantum Cola. Occasional moments of mass violence are so relaxing.
