Hidden settlement improvements

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 4:35 am

Anyone know where I can find a complete list of settlement improvements, particularly the hidden ones like caravan trade post and artillery.

I tried to Google but all I find are incomplete lists (missing the caravan post so I wonder what else) and people showing off their own settlements

You get the caravan post from doing a quest in Bunker hill. I think you have to do one quest from Deb(?) first before that quest opens up?

For the rest look on the wiki.

But since the game is relatively new the wiki is still missing some things.

Maybe buy a Prima guide?

To get artillery, you have to complete the quest Old guns from Ronnie Shaw at the castle.

For the first time ever, I bought the Prima Guide... and it is very basic, when it comes to Settlement. I was hoping to have more in-depth descriptions and lists and guides, but alas, most of what I know about settlements comes from either hands on practice or from the helpful folks around these forums.

Yea, never heard of that one either and I've build tons of settlements and did some quests for Bunker Hill.

I've built a caravan post at sanctuary and traders seem more likely to turn up there, still waiting for Larry.

Once you become allied with Bunker Hill, and it opens up as a Workshop settlement, you can build a caravan stop at any of your other settlements. And other caravan traders like Cricket or Lucas Miller will make stops at your settlements.

Caravan trade post is a camp fire with the concrete blocks that you can sit on while cooking. You get a special one from completing a quest in Bunker Hill that will allow roaming traders like Cricket, Carla, the armor guy, et al... to set your settlements on their trade route.

Yeah, I only found out about it by reading about different quests on the wiki just the other day, wonder how many other things I'm missing....

Just a tip: If you're trying to get the Benevolent Leader achievement/trophy, do the quests in Bunker Hill and build a caravan trade post. I was stuck at 99% happiness for ages and nothing else worked, but as soon as I built one the trophy popped up.

Apart from that, artillery and the molecular relay I think the only other settlement items unlocked through gameplay are via the Picket Fences magazines. I would be happy to be proved wrong on this, however, because I love building settlements.

Picket fences magazines unlock things as well:

One unlocks white picket fences like the ones already in sanctuary

One lets you build statues like a baseball player, fountain, minuteman or lions.

One lets you build better lights.

One lets you build potted plants.

One lets you build patio furniture

Theres also a wasteland survival guide that unlocks decorations but I forget what they are.

If you finish the Cabot House questline you get creepy new paintings. Kinda cool but I wouldn't be able to sleep in the same room.

I really wish you could get the presidential portraits shown in the game. That would be wonderful.

Noticed that and thought it was very weird. Why would I want these people on my wall?

The 100% happyness works for some and not for other players. I have all decorations available and all addons (caravan trading post etc), but as soon I reach 86% is goes down to 75. Someone else have posted that give settlers soap and toothbrushes may work. Spamming trade stations all over the settlements may work, but it seems weird. Right now I'm pleased to have about 80%, the achievements is nothing I planned to do, but I want all perks done. You get "artillery" and "caravan trading posts" via quests. However, it seems like some of the settlements may not be able to have "caravan trading post" and/or "artillery".

Cheers,

-Klevs

If you're a psycho, these are ideal. My character is, to a certain degree.

I need to work on that then. My favourite base is Starlight Drive-In, but sadly no caravans ever stop there. That's going to be fixed now, then! :)

This. Note you don't have to do the Battle of Bunker Hill, but you may have to do any quests Kessler or the other NPCs at Bunker Hill give you.

For them to become allied, you have to do the battle. I'm not sure about the Caravan post though.

I'm not sure about becoming allied, but to get the caravan trading post you need to clear out the National Guard Training Yard for Deb and then talk to Kessler who will send you to clear out a school. After completing that it will be unlocked.
