Thanks a lot Preston

Ok so here I am at level 12 and Preston sends to me Finch Farm to help them.

I go, and find out the old guy wants me to get a sword his son took and also clear out the raiders his son took up with ... at Saugus Ironworks. Well I've never been there before so why not.

Well I knew there was a problem when my first few sniper shots failed to kill their targets. The ensuing battle in the bushes with the flamers kind of cemented the idea that these guys were way over my level.

Undeterred I decided to give it a try anyway, however I got a little cocky and took a snipe shot at some guy I happened to see walking along a raised highway not far away. Shot connected, didn't kill, and then shown him as a Legendary Gunner Captain. Well dang, at least he can't get to me so I'll leave him alone.

I moved to the junkyard near the Ironworks and soon get in way over my head. I run (leave Preston behind) and come to the edge of some water and meet ... the Legendary Gunner Captain I had popped a shot off at earlier, only now he's mutated. So since I'm already on fire I jump into the water with the Ironwork raiders and gunners following me. I climb out of the water and look right into the face of an Assaultron who's about ready to blast me. My last thought was 'where the hell did you come from?'.

So ... I must reload and leave this place, and this quest, alone for now. But seriously, what level is this place? I noted that about half the NPC's I fought had skulls next to their names.

Thanks.

Saugus Ironworks is pretty tough for the first levels that you may encounter it, with a hard minimum level (15? 20?) that all the Forged are set to. First time arriving there, they were all marked with skulls (which is a warning for 'powerful enemy'). Overall, they're well armored, well armed, with large HP pools and good energy resist. Be ready for a fight.

Just be glad you didn't head north, their is a named assaultron that I encountered at level 10 trying to go to an insane asylum who killed me in 1 hit, I reloaded the save and tried to luer him to the same junkyard you were at and he killed all the gunners and than me.

I was like OK guess I'll come back at lvl 20

hey, enjoy it while it lasts!!!

this has got to be a new character for you, seen you post a lot in here ;)

I kinda miss a good challenge. at level 84, with killer armor and weapons at my disposal, short of dropping all but melee weapons, I run into very few OP opponents!

That might be the one that got me in the end. Didn't have time to read it's name ... too busy picking up pieces of my brain and reloading.

Yeah this is my fourth playthrough. I been retiring them as soon as I beat the MQ as I was just wanting to see the different endings and try different play-styles, generally around level 35 for my characters. This guy however if finally my 'just role-play' guy. Liking it so far ... but I won't be going to the Ironworks for a while.

ya lol if I tried it now I would probably pick up the minigun at the beginning and shoot him with that and dodge the slow turning eye lasers that come out after 20 seconds
