Loadtimes suddenly increased 10 fold.

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 11:24 am

I'm about 35 hours in to my game. Load times have always been <5 seconds for fast areas and ~10 seconds for slower loads. (exterior in city, etc.)

Suddenly, starting yesterday, my load times have gone up 10x. Almost every single loadscreen takes over a minute, even small interiors, and it often never loads the load menu. (Item + background)

I checked my saves and they're still good. Slowly creeping up to ~8mb. I don't have any issues with other games, my HDD usage looks nominal, and there was no patch. I cannot figure out what changed to cause this.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey AJV! I've seen mad load times and audio lag when avast decided to do some [censored] in the background. Restart and launch when that stopped and it went away.

Check your resources again next time and see your HDD usage. Post a dxdiag to so we can check for random bits and bobs.

None of my hardware changed, I don't even think I downloaded any updates for any software. I tried disabling my antivirus to no avail. As I said HDD was fine even while it was happening.

And I actually don't post dxdiag publicly as it contains a lot of high risk information. >.> But no hardware changes occurred whatsoever. Just, poof, game loads real slow. Though, like 1/20 loads are still fast.

Fair enough mate. Run the report anyway and look for the issues part of the bottom. See if there's anything to do with software, or windows updates.

Stick your save on Dropbox and PM me a link and I'll test on my machine, to rule out corrupt saves.

I'll check out my diag, though like I said I didn't update anything. No windows update, no steam or Fallout update, no driver updates.

Will PM you the save shortly!

Like I said I don't post them publicly because they contain a lot of info that can be used maliciously. In addition none of my hardware or drivers changed when the problem started. I'm running a full cleanse on my machine doing all the normal maintenancey stuff I normally do to see if it helps.

You have a loading time of 5-10s and I assume you r running on SSD? And now SSD takes over a min to load?

I'm on HDD. I ran a full suit of cleany maintenance type stuff and the problem has gone away. I'm back down to ~10s loads. I have no clue what the issue was, since nothing changed and I've been playing the game since it came out and doing those cleaning things frequently. Not sure what suddenly caused it to get real slow. (and not any other games or programs >.>)

Thanks for the input and replies guys! :)

~10 second loading on a normal harddisk is super. Anyway glad that you have resolved your problem.
