Full Armor Suit Crafting

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 1:14 pm

One thing I would like to see added in is the ability to craft pieces of armor onto an outfit. Once melded together it would provide an added bonus.

The main reason for this is namely that it can be a bit difficult to swap outfits. You drop into town and put your business suit/fedora on to do business but back in the wasteland you need to requip you outfit and half a dozen pieces of armor - you could also accidentally get mixed up if you are hailing a lot of different pieces.

Would be cool if you could craft together all the pieces of, for example, leather armor(if all pieces are the same you get an added bonus to that armor type) to say a vault suit - in your pip boy inventory that would all be one item now.

The disadvantage is that you wouldn't be able to swap individually piece about without any workbench, but of course you still have the option to equip it as you do currently. Win win

Ya that would be awesome, less inventory slots taken up for armor, 10/10 idea. Maby like 5 pounds added weight for the set and costing steel for welding it all together.

For the confusing inventory lists, I use a little trick. I rename things that I want to wear "Personal Leg Left" or "Personal Leg Right" or "Personal [Whatever]". (I use that scheme for weapons as well.) That way they all sort together for fast clicking and anything without the Personal tag can be sold. If I decide to replace a piece with something better, I rename it as "Companion [Whatever]" - or sometimes "Cait's [Blank]" or "Piper's [Whatzit]" - and pass it on to them while inducting the new piece into the Personal ranks. The only caveat is that until you reach a certain point in the game you can't use the same system with most clothes because they're not craftable, so you DO still have to be somewhat careful about your business suit and fedora or slacks and sweater vest combos.

Also, if you switch the game's default naming convention for arms and legs from Right/Left Leg/Arm to Leg/Arm Left/Right they will sort by body part before position, which I personally find much more natural.

Any weapons or armor i am using or equip regularly, of which i can craft, i rename with a hyphen(-) at the beginning of the name. This brings them right to the top of the list and groups them together. Not perfect but it definitely helps.

I'm fine with the system as is since it lets me have the reinforced/armored vault suit look. Yes, they were in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but they didn't last to higher levels, but this system lets me swap out leather or metal for combat armor.

Like the suggestion, but wouldn't like a bonus for doing it.

Just to be clear, you can still do that with my suggestion. All I am suggesting is that there be an option to build a full suit while at the armor workbench (2x arms, 2x legs, chest piece, base outfit) and is saved as a single item. You can swap out pieces at the bench and if they are all the same type you get a small bonus.

If you are more comfortable roaming around and just wrapping pieces as you go you can still do that - you just wouldn't get a combined bonus and you would have all kinds of pieces in your inventory.

Yep. I never went past the lightest combat armor with my Prime character, even when Sturdy and Heavy became available. Given how damage is calculated (diminishing returns for higher numbers) it's more than adequate to mid-game. Then once you get that certain mod from that certain group, you're covered for endgame. Not to mention that the lighter weight is important for stealth.

I've accidentally sold my armor a dozen times. I have to rename my armor just to keep track of it too. Seriously any suggestion to improve the current system is fine by me.

The current inventory screen needs a lot of improving, period. Besides better grouping and sorting of items, we need search and filter, and we need better navigation, such as hotkeys to go to top and bottom of a long list so we don't have to scroll through it.
