A problem with my settlers

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 4:51 pm

I was at Slog yesterday trying to build it up when I ran out of supplies. The sun was rising and it was clear skies. So I went atop of the driving range to look around. As I'm enjoying the view I notice something moving in the distance. So I do what everyone does, I pull out my sniper rifle. It's a deathclaw. I debated wether or not I should shoot it. Again I do what basically everyone else would do, I shoot it. So as it runs closer I notice it's an Alpha deathclaw. I shoot again and it hides behind that restaurant. Deacon is already on the ground shooting at it. Now I notice my Brahmin is charging at it, so now I jump down to save it. I pull out my shotgun and begin shooting it. It goes down, now someone is shooting me from behind. I turn around and it's my settlers, even Deacon has joined in. So I run off so I don't kill anyone important.

The question is can I go back to Slog? And is Deacon against me now? Or should I just go back to a previous save and leave the deathclaw alone this time.

go back and see if they forgive you. if you are on PC there is a command to use I believe.

if not, then reload a save.

good thing you stopped any forward progress to correct it! better than finding out later!

I'm on Xbox one.

I was tempted to start blasting them but seeing Deacons name took me by surprise. I really didn't want to mess the story up. I just started the missions with him.

Went back and they are still pissed. I reloaded a previous save and what do you know the deathclaw is out there again.

Yea fights with NPC's around can get real frustrating. In the U.S.S Constitution quest I had a heck of a time finishing it without accidentally shooting one of the robots who would rush in front of me as I fired then of course they all went hostile. I had to reload that one several times.

I tried giving a Brotherhood solider who was on low health a stimpak by pick pocketing him. I just wanted to see if he would use it. However my pick pocket failed, he caught me trying to help him & the whole brotherhood turned against me. The moral of this story is... when something like that happens I find it best to reload.

Thanks for the heads up, I still have to do this mission. Quick save before I begin.

Same thing kept happening to me. Over and over and over.

Spoiler
I play a stealthy sniper character, but the only way I could complete it satisfactorily was to use power armor and jump down into the fight with a minigun (which I had never used after that first Deathclaw and haven't used since) and blast away. I simply could not use my typical mines and snipe methods because the stupid Mr Handy's kept stepping on my mines or even stepping in front of my shots. Very frustrating.

Generally, it takes 3 in-game days for the settlers to calm down, so they'll be red in the meantime. You can always try this:

Find a named settler and draw your weapon. Be sure you're in their line of sight. As they approach, lower your weapon. Sometimes this resets them, though it's not guaranteed. You can try several attempts to see if you can succeed. If not, just leave the area for a bit.

My guess is you probably inadvertently hit a settler going after the Deathclaw. Something as stupidly incidental of flying debris caused by your shot can trigger them against you, so it's always best to take the fight to the enemy, not allow the enemy to come to you (or the NPCs).
