Assigning Curie to a settlement?

Is it supposed to be possible to assign Curie to a settlement? Every time I try to she keeps (literally) running back to Vault 81?

Curie has been gliding around Sanctuary for me, though I haven't checked in my last couple plays

I had her hang out at the Red Rocket for weeks, both as a bot and after.

Where in V81 does she hang out anyway? I've been wanting to send people back to their original location but was always afraid to send her to V81 for fear it would put her back in the secret vault somewhere. It'd be great if she hanged out at my personal room there.

Yeah, she's glitched for a lot of people. Some people can send her to settlements before completing her companions quest but not after. Some people couldn't before, but were able to after. Some people have never had a problem, and some people have just never been able to send her to a settlement. I've never been able to send her to one. I'm in a new play through currently, and just got to Vault 81 last night. I'm going to do the Hole in the Wall quest in a little bit, so I'm hoping I'm not stuck with this bug again.

She hangs out right in front of the doctors office there. I don't think you can send companions back to their original locations once you've already sent them somewhere else though. Unless there's a console command I've not seen that makes it possible.

If you don't select an option when given (just hit TAB) they go back to where you found them, or their home, office, whatever. I just wasn't sure where Curie would go.

Not exactly. It goes to wherever they were last. If you have already assigned a given companion to Sanctuary Hills, hitting tab is just going to send them back to Sanctuary Hills. You can only, for example, send Piper back to Publick Occurrences if you have -never- sent her to one of your settlements before.

More accurately, they go back to the last place they were tied to. They only go back to their default location if you've never told them to go anywhere else. My Curie will return to Red Rocket if I tab out of the destination selection, because it's the last place I told her to wait.

Got ya. I've been making sure to never actually send anyone anywhere as I hate seeing them just wandering around my settlements when I know they have other 'lives', so on this current play-through they've been going back to their homes.

I do this with some of them. I've never sent Nick Valentine to a settlement. He has a detective agency to run. People are going to need his help, and I don't want Ellie to be out of a job. It makes more sense with some of them, like Cait, Curie, and MacCready, to send them to a settlement. Curie has no 'home' to speak of. The whole point of the arrangement with picking up Cait as a companion is to get her out of the Combat Zone. With Paladin Danse I think it makes more sense to keep him on the Prydwen than it does to send him to a settlement to tend some corn. It's kind of a case by case basis for me. I wish the option of sending them back to their original location was there though. I'm guessing there's probably a console command for it, but it should be within the game itself.

I do that too for companions that have other places to be. Piper, Nick, Deacon and Danse all have more important things to do than idle in my settlements.

On the other hand Curie doesn't want to be in her starting location, Cait was essentially pawned off on me, Codsworth is my robot and Dogmeat is my dog.

I don't even recruit the others.

Current play-through all I have is Cogs, Dog, Preston and Piper. Yeah I agree those without homes, like Cait, Curie, etc. will need a place. I may have to build up Red Rocket as main private base for just me and my companions that need homes. No settlers though. They just crowd the place. Just wish I could assign companions beds like you do settlers so they would stop sleeping in mine. Except you Cait ... you're good.

Yea, that's what I'm going to do during my next playthrough. I think it's silly that we can't send them back to their original locations.

As for Curie, she was first living at the Starlight Drive In and now she is living on Spectacle Island.

When companions or others (for that matter), goes back to default location even you say otherwise, it's a glitch (I rather say bug), it's almost the same thing. The result is, anyway. Just to be sure that you mark the location several times before they leaving the workingspace area or else you need to run after them. Even if mine settlement had max settlers due to mine charisma attribute (the location will be gray'ed out), I have no problem to assign them (maybe a settler will have to leave, doesn't matter). Settlers will keep coming when I raise charisma. As someone posted, maybe having all companions gathered in the same settlement since now and then they will complains - "I want to have a stiff drink", "I want to smash something", "I'm very successfull because everyone tries to kill me", "I want to use mine lasergun", "I'm bored" etc :-)

Cheers,

It won't help you now unless you have a save from before you recruited Curie, but I found a workaround for this.

The key (for me) was to to talk to Curie after handing the cure over to Dr. Forsythe, but before talking to Austin during the Hole in the Wall quest. I explained it all here.
