I heard a rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Glenn Miller and I thought that this song could be in the game.... What period music do you find that suits the game?

Some ambient music would go well in the bleak yet struggle so alive with hope wasteland. A few songs which pop into mind-
Brian Eno- In The Future

Information Society- The Sky Away
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWO8nRaDjMk
Nine Inch Nails- A Warm Place

David Bowie- Crystal Japan

I think What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong would suit Fallout 4 well.
Indeed or some Harry Belafonte- Sylvie

It's not strictly "period", but I always thought Colin James' "Chicks, Cars & the 3rd World War" would be a great fit for a Fallout game.
The Atom Cats would rock that track all day.
Failing that, some more period-appropo stuff might include:
Elvis Presley, John Lee hoker, early BB King, some Cab Calloway (Minnie the Moocher would be a superb choice).
Big Iron. It was played way too seldom in New Vegas.
I have no clue why they did not make two radio stations for this reason. The non rockabilly can put me in a depressed mood a lot of times. There is a good chunk I like. But I mean come on, Dion Wanderer really hyped me up, And I may hear it now what one time every 4 - 5 hours if that... I have almost 600 hours logged, and it has came on the stock radio maybe 5 times. *Sigh*
Well i am playing with the idea to set up a german radio station when i find the time, Old german WW2-PostWW2 songs fit the game perfectly.
zarah leander - davon geht die welt nicht unter
listen yourself its just one example on how well this type of music fits the Fallout Universe.
Anything You Can Do by Irving Berlin.
The songs need to be in the 1950s' and below or else it wouldn't fit into the Fallout theme world.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zOoAPn3OjQ - The Mills Brothers - 1952
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s7jJd8EjlA&feature=related - Burl Ives - 1949
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdwLp0co6C0&p=38FE0F2C4E4F2BD9&playnext=1&index=42 - The Southlanders - 1958
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CFSbzyjOkg - Patsy Cline - (Released 1965, recorded 1958)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bohMPplkpY - The Fleetwoods - 1962
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2WJqnK3gAY - Harry The Hipster Gibson - 1944
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_m1b8BYmhA - Connie Boswell - 1941
Just a few off the top of my head.
I'm a metal head and firmly believe the apocalypse would have spawned such music so you can just imagine what i might think was appropriate for the game.
Well, metal bands can make good ballads as well (I'm an old metalhead tho, lol)

I don't really listen to the radios in the game (not my taste tbh) but this one would fit well in FONV

Cos David Bowie was totally making electro music in the 50's.
Well I was thinking more of the ambient non 50's pieces Bowie has done like the b side of Heroes. Still there are plenty of Bowie 50s style music like The Prettiest Star and songs from the Pinups album and the 1960s feel of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars.
The Boston Pops would be appropriate for the '50s feel. They used to play popular songs of the advlts at the time.
"Ain't Love A Kick In The Head" - Dean Martin. I want that song in Fallout 4 so much as well as "Blue Moon" and other good classics. New Vegas had a nice selection and was hoping for some of it to be in Fallout 4. I do greatly enjoy Fallout 4's selection.
This cover of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyTxdupG0lc would be completely fine honestly. Though not necessary as a "classic" but rather as a "new song" in the world. Similar to how we have Magnolia's songs on the radio. (Actually, both are Jazz and are made for Fallout specifically, haha). The original version of "Already One Year" is a flat-out no-no, trust me on that one. I don't think pop music was a thing in the 1940s/50s.
Mind you though, this is more just a thought of what could possibly be in the game without ruining the game itself.
Listening to Man?war while playing Skyrim was an almost.... RELIGIOUS experience.
Not sure it'd fit Fallout though. The cheesy, squeaky-clean music juxtaposed against the devastation and centuries of decay is as much a part of Fallout as Vault-Tec.
Wrong period, but I would have loved a station that played music from The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
