As bizarre as this will sound, bear with me because it makes perfect sense.


The game starts as normal and you enter the vault, witness your wife / husband die and fall nack unconcious only this time when you wake up you are not in the cyro pod.


You are on the back of a carriage with a bunch of captive storm cloak rebels held by imperial empire soldiers, destined for execution in the cyrodilic province of skyrim!

Yes you are now playing skyrim!


Your brain is slowly losing oxygen which is causing you to have hallucination of being here. You are dressed as ypur favourite childhood hero Grognak the Barbarian and alduin's roars are replaced with random dialogue of kellog, the cryong of your 1 year old son and the shrill cries of your ex wife.


The final battle funny enough with alduin is in sovenguard which for the Nords is actually the afterlife. So as you end the game you face alduin and your journey ends there, you slowly realise you are actually still in the vault and you are now dead having won in sovenguarde.


Why dragons? The dragon represents your anger and frustration of being unable to get out the cyro pod to save youe family. alduin is called world eater in lore but the real reason? Its a reference to the nuclear bomb that destroyed the commonwealth.
