Game won't start to 95% of the time i try to run it.

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 3:40 pm

So i have been playing FO4 sins it was released with no problem what so ever, yesterday it started to act really wierd like 95% of the time i try to start the game i will come so far as to the loading screen where you can change settings and other stuff. But when i come so far the game ether just crashes back to desktop or just load forever, if i go to settings/audio it tries to locate my sound or what ever (see screenshot) but i here the sound just fine. The other 5% the game just start up with no problem, i have verified my game cache with Steam, made a clean game install and started a new game with no mods at all, updated all my hardware and software drivers, but still the game act like this.

I'm using a Sennheiser headset with stereo settings, have tried 5.1 and 7.1 but that only makes the sound weird and coming from wrong places.

What the heck is wrong?!

Have you tried a new game, without any previous saves on your Fallout 4 saves folder?

I wonder if there are FFDShow conflicts with this game.

Have you tried deleting the ini files here: C:\Users\Nathan\Documents\My Games\Fallout4??

Or consider update your realtek high definition audio driver? http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

For me running Win10, I switch to Microsoft High Definition Audio Device instead of using realtek. If updating driver doesn't work, you can consider too.

Are there any errors below your EVR Power Informations on yoyr Dxdiag?

------------

Try to delete any ini files on those two folders:

C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

and verify tour game cache files.

Also have you changed lately any setting(s) on your Nvidia control panel?

@ mark5917

Already tried all that and i have not changed anything in my nVidia Control panel, posted the whole DxDiag so if there is no errors in that file then it was no errors.

How about using Microsoft default High Definition Audio device driver instead of Realtek? Or can you try other sound output example digital audio? Try to verify your game cache too. Also a post in reddit about fixing no audio worth a look https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/3s4xxy/no_audio_on_fallout_4_anyone_else_with_the_same/

I have looked around the internet and there is a LOT of people that has the same issue as i, and it all started at the 29th Dec for every one...so something is not as it should with the game.

Correlation does not mean causation. However if this is the case then an automatic update from a software company would be to blame, not Fallout 4. Such as Windows update or steam. Bethesda made no changes to Fallout since their last patch.

I think it is Steam that is the culprit in the end.

After Steam updated today all problems are solved, now the game starts just fine to 100%

I knew it was Steam that was the culprit ;)

Thanks all for trying to help anyway!

Not sure how steam can be the culprit but its good that it was resolved.
