Bethesda: What you got wrong

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 10:12 pm

It works both ways mate, I'm getting a little tired of being criticized for allowing myself to actually ENJOY the game, rather than focus all of my energy into things I don't like and dedicating my time to bashing people who don't think as negatively all the time.

There is nothing wrong with not liking something, there is also nothing wrong with liking it. What is wrong is everybody going around treating their opinions like facts and jumping down the throat of people who don't agree.

But as i read nobodies criticized you for like it

And as you have the right to claim you like the actual state of the game and don't want it change, other have the right to say they don't like it. You are not protecting your life here no ?

You're the one who said you were getting too old :P

Just saying the people defending the game aren't exactly the worst end of the spectrum, intelligence and manners wise. The nay-sayers are much more aggressive in general.

And you are the one who started moaning about people

Is this the point where someone replies to you with an equally passive aggressive generalization about the people that defend the game and so on? Stop bunching people together.

Its a fun enough game, i guess. You need to hit max level to go wherever you want though, which is kind of pointless.

With Unique Landscapes, there's a lot more incentive to go out and explore Cyrodiil. Every region became unique in its own right, instead of being a forest in just a different color palette.

Even playing it unmodded on my uncle's computer, I wandered off into the wilderness most of the time and I only ever beat the MQ once. Mods and expansions just octupled the content.

You're probably right that the smaller size is illusory. Maybe it's just my different RP experience that I set out for myself.

Morrowind and Skyrim - my character went to these provinces for a specific reason, but gets sidetracked.

Oblivion and New Vegas - my character wants to start a new life and signs up for pretty much everything.

Fallout 3 - my character has a duty to help her father but afterwards, she's gone.

Fallout 4 - my character remembered Dr Zimmer's words about the Commonwealth and Institute and played everyone to get inside, but does not get sidetracked

I'm thinking that maybe because my character has a specific reason for being in that game and is actually following through with it, instead of outright delaying it, maybe the game feels a lot smaller.

Aren't there enough shooter MMOs now? Of course, aren't there just enough MMOs of all types now?

Of course you're criticized for liking the game. People jump down your throat all the time. I'm not even allowed to say it anymore as it's depressing how much flack you get for even stating that you like the game.

Of course there are things in the game that are off, or glitched, or I have issues with, but, I chose not to criticize. I've played Beth games since Morrowind and all of the Fallout Series as well.

IMO - yes, there have been changes and adaptions to the current needs and wants of the gaming population as a whole. Certainly those hardcoe gamers that want difficulty modulations or do not want simple mechanics that anyone can understand will not like certain aspects. Certainly, in some cases the story and the "freedom" Beth so prides itself on have been narrowed in definitions.

Me - I love F4. It's my one an only shooter, just as ESO is my one and only MMO.

I don't say their perfect, but I focus on what I enjoy, not what, to me are minor issues that, in no way affect me at all. The MacReady glitch? To me, so what? I don't use companions unless I'm forced to. Never have. The exploits (unlimited caps, duplications, etc...) - I don't use them. Never have in any game I've played.

Would I like it if the Monsignor Plaza glitch was patched? Of course! Would I like it if the settlement mechanics were tweaked? Of course! Would I like it if the weird Brahmin and settler behavior, not to mention the teleporting raiders and break dancing supers were fixed (okay, I can deal with the break dancing Supers - that's funny), of course!

But I'm not focusing on that.

I love F4 for what it is, just as I loved Oblivion, Skyrim, F3, FNV, ESO and so many other games (DA:O, DA2, DA:I, DD:DA, SoM and so many more) for what they are. Flawed gems or, sometimes flawed pieces of [censored]. I just love gaming.

It's just my opinion. It matters to me. That's all.

You act like the lack of trust is a constant, but I believe my lack of trust in game designers has been increasing dramatically in the last 5 years. Other than a few small exceptions which in the scheme of things were quickly fixed, I remember a time when you could buy a game and expect it to be reasonably balanced and free of most bugs.

Fallout 4 is deeply unbalanced and loaded with bugs. What more, I doubt many of them will ever get fixed. Its a broken game, and the only thing that more or less operates the way it should are the most main plot lines for Institute or Brotherhood, and even these are a joke compared to the freedom of choice you had in NV or even F3.

That's just being dishonest in business practice, which is suppose to be the exception not the norm.

Well... It is a Beth game. That's kind of the way it goes.

Those of us who've played Bethesda games for years simply expect the bugs, glitches and strange mechanics when we purchase it. You can't tell me that NV and F3 didn't have their share of them as well.

And, sure, many of them never will get fixed. It's the nature of the beast.

Me, I prefer to enjoy the game and not sweat the small stuff. I haven't played a AAA game in the last 10 years that hasn't been buggy and weird and unbalanced in some way.

I'll admit that it is more difficult for players who want to play at the highest level of difficulty, but, in general, for "Normal" players, I don't really think it's that big a deal.

I just enjoy and laugh at the silliness.

That's just my opinion though.

Agree with that. Used to have a slideshow at the end of Fallout 3 and NV that would depend on what your character did throughout gameplay. Obviously you could change the slideshow with your decisions in different play-throughs.

Disappointing to learn that has been [censored]canned in this iteration.

Yeah, the bold part is the reason they had ending slides. FO4 only has one real choice, and that is which faction the player sides with at end game. It does not really allow for any slides.

No need to be disappointed, Bethesda is just being Bethesda.

I see an amazing about of acceptance for bad game designer behavior. Perhaps then we should move beyond Bethesda...
