Best (Non-Power) Armour Combination?

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 9:31 pm

What's the best combination or armour pieces you've found so far, with locations if possible?

At level 46 I've hit a total of 283, which seems rather low considering.

Armored Army Fatigues: 110

Devistator's Chest Piece: 49

Devistator's Right Greave: 30

Mark 2 Synth Helmet: 17

Overseer's Left Armguard: 22

Overseer's Right Armguard: 22

Powered Polished Metal Leg: 23

Only thing I can see is replacing the synth helmet with one of the hats that can be modified with ballistic weave, since it too can get up to 110

Personally I tend to go for style over outright numerical value. I have a mod installed to allow ballistic weave to be applied to other under-armor garments, so I have an Armored Vault Suit and a black Armored BOS Officer's Uniform. Then I have Deep-Pocketed Polymer Sturdy Combat Armor over the top, with a polymer modded Destroyer's Helmet, which is a unique Combat Armor Helmet with +1 Charisma and +1 Intelligence, as well as the Patrolman's Sunglasses, which have +1 Perception. It's a great looking combination, that provides good resistances and some perk bonuses that are very helpful. I have a base charisma of 10, so with the helmet I've got 11 charisma which is enough to pass all speech checks in the game. This is helpful because I don't have to bring alternate clothing with me to further boost my charisma unless I'm making the rounds to the vendors and want better prices.

I have a total damage resistance of 221 with this combo. I forget what the energy and radiation resistances are, but they're pretty good. The Vault Suit helps out a fair amount in this regard.

I think most of your armor pieces are the strongest in the game. As mentioned above though, as comical as it may sound, swapping your helmet for an armored trilby hat would give you a big boost in damage resistance. The armored hats for some reason provide 110 damage resistance across your entire body.

edit - And for what it's worth, I'm at level 79 and I have SPECIAL totally maxed out.

I love this thread. Just what I needed to make comparisons and stuff.

This is my set, at level 29. I think its pretty decent. I play on Survival mode.

  • Steadfast BOS Combat Armor Chest Piece * 22/22 (grants increasing energy and dmg resistance the lower your health)

  • Resistant Vault 111 Jumpsuit 15/15 rad

  • Hunter's Studded Leather Left Arm* 12/19 (reduces dmg from animals by 15%)

  • Bolstering Polished Metal Left Leg* 15/9 (grants increasing energy and dmg resistance the lower your health)

  • Cavalier's Polished Metal Right Arm* 15/9 (reducing dmg while blocking or sprinting by 15%)

  • Chameleon Polished Metal Right Leg* 15/9 (enemies have a harder time detecting you, while you're sneaking and not moving, also gives a freaking awesome 'predator' like cloaking appearance.)

  • Polished Metal Helmet 15/8

This gives me a total of:

  • 102 Damage resistance

  • 94 energy resistance

  • 35 rad resistance

  • 125 AP

Hope this helps anyone around my level.

If you see certain 'musts' that I'm not using, or not carrying - please let me know so I'll upgrade it! ^

I've noticed that one of the outfits that qualify for ballistic weave could actually go under pieces. I forget its name - one of the fatigues? Or a shirt and jeans? Bought it ready-made from Tinker Tom, and later buffed it even more. Add that to a set of armour and you get another ~100 right there.

Army and military fatigues will both accept the weave and let you have the armour as well.

Army Fatiges, Baseball Uniform, Dirty Army Fatigues, Green Shirt and Combat Boots, Military Fatigues, Minutemen Outfit, or Tattered Rags - these under-armor items all accept Ballistic Weave, so you can get 110/110/0 from them at rank 4 of Armorer.

Heavy Synth Armor - The Synth Armor is simply the best armor in the game. Unique Armor Pieces of lesser sets do get a slight bump to their defense values, but that "slight bump" is +2 Ballistic and +2 Energy Res, so overall, a set of Heavy Synth Armor will still be the best. Especially if you get Legendary versions, which would also get the "slight bump" that Uniques get.

Battered Fedora, Green Rag Hat, Newsboy Cap, Trilby Hat - Like the under-armor, these items can all take Ballistic Weave.

That's a minimum of 323/340/0 with unmodified Heavy Synth Armor. It will get pushed higher by upgrading the material, and by getting Legendary Heavy Synth Armor pieces, but that's the lowest you'll get. And if it works like Combat Armor, you can get 60 Rad Resist wth the Leaded Misc mod on the armor pieces. You could get that up to 85 Rad Resist with a fully-upgraded Vault Suit, but since it can't be given Ballistic Weave, you will lose 110/110/0 just switching out whatever you have equipped under your armor for the Vault Suit; a Rad-X will give you 4 times the Rad Resist you'd get from using the Vault Suit without compromising your Ballistic and Energy Resistances.

I was just about to ask what hats could take Ballistic Weave so Thank You for mentioning them all up there.

Other stuff works as under-armor, too... but they do not all accept 4 pieces of layered armor. The wiki lists each piece and which layered slots will work with each garment.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ballistic_weave

My personal favorite is:

Atom Cats Outfit - BW MK V - accepts leg pieces only

Battered Fedora - BW MK V

Leather LL, muffled and black - w/ AP regen legendary effect.

Leaterh RL, muffled and black - w/ chameleon legendary effect.

Not the highest stats in the game, but looks fantastic.
