So the devs say that your kid in the beginning will have similar features to you and spouse when he grows up. I havnt played yet so I cant verify if it is true. What I was thinking though is wouldn't it be cool if you could have another child? Leave them with the spouce and they grow in stages based on time your away. You could then take them out into the world with you when they reach teenage years and show them how to survive the wastelands. Would be neat in my opinion to use that feature instead of making it a one time deal.
