Fallout4 Endgame. Will DLC level scale & provide a chall

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:42 am

Hi,

I binged Fallout 4 in the winter holidays, it's been a lot of fun even if I do not agree with each and every game design decisions and the focus on making it an accessable casual game to reach a broad audience. Still, playing on survival sometimes provided a challenge and the game still managed to entertain me quite a bit. I spent some time with Fallout 4 and decided I enjoyed it enough to look into extending its entertainment value, since I completed each and every mission and made multiple runs to enjoy the different fraction endings.

My main character who played the main story ending I found the most appealing is now level 68 and there is not much of a challenge left in the not so big Fallout 4 wasteland. There arent many enemies that withstand a clip of fully upgraded Experiment 18-A plasma fire. Most of them gooify after one hit.

So my questions is, are DLC going to fix this issue, will they provide engame content that actually challenges characters of this Level and Players that are capable to operate a mouse? I do not remember if they did in Fallout 3, all I do remember is Fallout New Vegas did a much better Job in scaling enemy Levels (and pretty much everything else, I have to say but it wasnt a Bethesda game so.. back to the question). Do you think DLCs are going to provide sadly missed end game Content and bosses that require some sort of tactics besides Holding down the Buttons to fire and to move back?

Thanks

For a game than has no " level cap " would be hard to add end game. Most likely we'll see new area/areas to explore and increased healthpool of the enemies.

Tbh i think the game simply needs a new engine. The challenges and things that could be hard for us to beat in this game are really really limited.

For example starting a game on survival difficult. Many people said that the deathclaw is very hard to beat since it is a extreme bulletsponge. Tried it today again and its a cakewalk... Shoot the deathclaw in one leg till its slow down, shoot the next leg till its helpless on the floor and them you can stand behind it and stab it a few minutes till its dead to save ammo if want. Not that hard at all, possible without using a single stimpak.

So i do enjoy fallout 4 but like you said there are no hard gameplay elements in it. Im pretty sure i will buy the DLCs but i hope the next fallout will run on a new engine since the game needs it badly

Just got the avarenes perk who tell enemy information in VAT. Found that most enemies I'm fighting is level 15-20 on the last 3 quests, I'm level 54

Yes they are better geared than at lower level but still.

And no it has nothing to do with engine, Oblivion was hard at high level, it used the same engine 3 versions ago, it also used an pretty idiotic level scaling but it made the game hard at higher level.

Yes you can get challenges, even an lower level raider can ruin your day with an fatman.

However the quests tend to send you to the same low level areas all the time.

DLC for FO3 tended to go with the idea of stripping you naked essentially, and making you survive on your skills and wits alone, without all of the fancy gear you accumulated. Could you survive of all of a sudden you were stuck in a jail cell and only had improvised weapons and armor?

How does any of that feed into the needing a new engine? Imo the problem is with lousy game balance. From perks that increase damage by 200%, to legendary weapons that can boost dps that would put a fatman to shame. Really try an explosive mini-gun or shotgun. Also, that deathclaw in the beginning of the game is level capped. Since beth confuses difficulty level, with nerfing player damage its really confusing why they also gave so many damage increasing perks.

Lastly, the spawning system takes in account the player level when he/she visits an area. So if you visit lots of places when you are at a lower level, those cells will not spawn higher level critters. Again, some mods can address this, but this is one thing beth really needs to address because I am not sure modders can fix it with in-progress games.

It's something they've done in the past, so I think it'll happen here. My guess is that new DLC locations will scale all the way up to 100, but with a low minimum level like 25 or something; making the DLC prohibitively difficult for relatively new characters is something I think they should avoid doing.

Adding a mode where your health does not increase per level (everything else remains the same) will add quite a challenge.

What!

Try fighting a tough deathclaw whilst wearing reduced armour and a combat knife or baseball bat.

You don't have to always use your best weapons.

Stray thoughts, I wonder where the line between self-imposed limitations and role-playing falls. One of my characters only wears Hancock's Coat with Ballistic Weave, and the only weapons she uses are a Revolutionary Sword, a Pipe Revolver Pistol (not even with all of the best mods), a Laser Musket, the Broadsider, and a hell of a lot of explosives. But I don't see it as a self-imposed limitation - I'm role-playing as a post-nuclear pirate.

Don't certain enemy types/variations already scale with the player's level?

Yeah, my current character is sporting Lorenzo's Suit with ballistic weave. It's stylish, light and provides just the right amount of protection to even things up.

He's rich and also likes a drink.

He only takes chems to deal with radiation.

He never fast travels, instead, walking, running, swimming or catching a lift with the BOS flying machines.

All his health is from sleeping or food which he gathers on hunting trips.

No Stimpaks allowed.

Yes some do, especially in the open world.

However some of the quest related locations may be set around the level that you first visited.

Not 100% sure as i have visited places that have weak enemies and a few spots where nothing has respawned at all.

Anyway there are plenty of spots that sport tough enemies in numbers.

Self imposed limitation =/= challenging gameplay

I mean i can pull out a old NES, start to play super mario and try to beat the game by playing with my feets instead with my hands. I bet it wont be possible for me to beat it.

Like i said i do enjoy fallout but its a easy game simple is that. By saying lower your gear and use less effective gear you admit i am right with my statement. So thanks for that.

Edit: and like i said deathclaws arent hard to beat. Even naked. Use vats to cripple one leg. This will slow them down enough to make the fight a cakewalk. If you want you shoot its next leg into pieces. After that it will lay on the floor unable to move and only able to attack you if you stand in front of it. So just go around it and stab it the next 5 minutes in the back with a plastic spoon if you want to without even moving. A challenging and hard fight should be something else if you ask me.

And i did this with lvl 3 on survival, i really dont think i was overpowered at that point, i think we can simply agree you shouldnt be forced to weaken yourself with lvl 3? Do we?
