If you finish the MQ, you are free to do whatever you want, but you can chose to ignore it completely.

I haven't played it so I can't answer your other questions, but yes, you can get it from UESP. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files

The DF Betony demo clocks out at 200 game days per character, and there is also a skill cap, IIRC. 200 days is actually a pretty long time, especially since you only have the (relatively) tiny island to gad around on.

how do i play the demo once i download it? it downloaded, came up with a WinZip window, i transfered all the files onto my desktop, and i dont know how to play.

Follow Freddo's guide at the top of the forum "How to get the past games to run" You'll need Winzip or Winrar to extract the files.

Does a folder on your desktop(i assume you put the daggerfall demo folder on your desk top) say dagdemo ? If it does click on it and click on daglite and right click on dagdemo and presto you are playing the daggerfall demo.
