Firstly...I am brand spanking new to Fallout 4. I have never played any of the previous Fallout games and so am still finding my way.

I bought Fallout 4 through Steam last week.

My problem seems to be with throwable weapons, i.e. hand grenades and mines.

I access the Pip Boy, select e.g. hand grenades, press Q to set as a favourite, assign it to a number and then get out of the Pip Boy.

So I want to throw a grenade, I press the assigned number but the grenade does not show up in my hand as being ready to throw. Instead it just keeps on showing the gun I was using last. In Settings it says that to throw a grenade you press Left Alt but when I do so it all it does is mellee the gun/rifle I am carrying.

Not being able to throw a grenade or place mines is making life really difficult in some places and I end up getting monstered all of the time.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it a software bug?

the weapon bash button does double duty.

tap to bash, hold down to throw equipped grenade.

Hold alt until you hear a click. At that point you are holding a grenade/landmine. When you release alt you will throw the grenade/toss a mine.

You have to equip the grenade like you would equip a weapon, and then use the grenade button to throw it. There will be a grenade ammo counter on your screen right next to the ammunation i believe.

Yes, to clarify, don't go to any of the trouble you did, and instead just select the grenade or mine as well as your main weapon of choice.

Now, while out in the wastes, press and Hold Alt till you hear a click and then toss the mine a few feet forward, or toss the grenade based on where the center of your view is when you release the Alt key.

Once you get the timing and the arc down you can toss one up in the air and have blow up right over someone or somethings head right on the other side of a wall.
