Is Fallout 4 Linear?

Alternate starts seem to work better for players that want to craft their own adventure regardless. Bethesda should have just given the player the option to start within any faction of the featured ones, and have the main quests set between their interactions with their political conflicts. Then the multiple endings would be based on what the player chooses to take partnership with or the player neutrally does nothing, the players own ending is them opting out of the war narrative into unknown status. I would have rather that than be forced to conform to one preset for you. You parents would be randomly selected based on how you defined your character (kind of like the GECK test). You could be a Raider and end up in the Brotherhood by the end of the game or vice versa. That would be a freer narrative.

The problem is you can play all 4 forks until the very end. Besides the ending you are never forced to make any hard choices. By the end none of them make any real sense. Don't get me wrong I am having fun playing but I just can not get into the MQ at all, I really do NOT care what happens to any of the factions and most of the NPC's seem shallow. Most of the minor quests are over simplistic. The writing for this game was just so poor. IMO.

I can of course only speak for myself, I did not accuse the latest GTA version - I just stopped playing it before I even finished it once. Somehow FO4 bugs me more, maybe because I think it is basically a good game, that just fell short when it comes to questdesign
