Does anyone know how many cells/blocks a single piece of artillery can fire from a settlement? Or if anyone has tested this i'd love to hear some results... I have heard that it is 5 blocks on your pip-boy map but that doesn't seem terribly far.

I've read around 5.5 - 6 blocks. I've never really done much testing to verify though. I'm not sure if height of artillery matters for distance like it's supposed to with turrets (something else I've read but not tested).
Sorry for not adding much, but here's some numbers from the console:
minArtilleryRangeMaximum = 50000.00
minArtilleryRangeMinimum = 2000.00
Interesting... Thanks for the Console numbers, i'll have to use those as a reference later. Maybe ill have to do some tests of my own tonight. I'm attempting to have my artillery be able to cover the whole map, if possible.
Yep , 50k GU = 12.2 cells and each square on the map is 2x2 cells so about 6 squares on the map is your range.
Most of this is info I've gathered from other's testing, some from my own.
Range is roughly 550 meters, so 5.5 grid sectors. From the Castle, you can't quite hit Trinity Towers, but you can get very close. To the West, Big John's Salvage is just within range.
Apparently, only the closest artillery will fire, so multiple settlements covering the same area is prolly not needed. However, more guns in one location will increase the duration of the shelling.
It takes about 30 seconds after popping smoke for the rounds to land, and roughly 3 minutes to summon another strike.
I hadn't used artillery until just recently, but am having quite a bit of fun with it now. Don't think you can cover the entire map(glowing sea), but you can get most of it.
Thanks Worm, maybe you'll know the answer to this one too.. When they say six squares, is that from where the artillery is in a straight line or is that basically a 6x6 square?(as in 3 squares north, east, south and west)
Distance in this case is linear so 6 squares left and right or up and down. Less than that diagonally because (geometry).
Perfect, thanks everyone! I'm off to the testing grounds shortly and will have some real world(in-game) results. I'll be doing some height tests as well.
Not sure how accurate you want your tests but if you're on PC
Open the console
Target the artillery your using type
getpos x
getpos y
getpos z
Then when you throw your flare do the same thing on the flare once it's at rest.
Then you can calculate the distance between the two points in a 3 dimensional space... if you wanna go that far
If i was at home i would... I'm gone for work so all i have is my Xbox One
I'll just set a way point and do some hand calculations w/ a bit of on screen measuring.
I wish the map would just give you another filter to show you your effective artillery strike zones with circles, showing overlap as well.
