A suitable base and crash pad (safe storage) in downtown?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 10:05 am

Hi everyone.

I've been looking for some safe storage in downtown Boston and was hoping to come across a little room or something I could set up as a little safe house for my character. The house for sale in Diamond City is just awful. I thought I was clever moving in with Piper but the containers reset and I lost tons of stuff.

Are there any other options? If possible I'd like somewhere that has safe storage and a bed and stuff but not a workshop. I find items I place on things I've built just fall through them and I really enjoy placing items for decoration. That doesn't seem to happen with objects that already in the world.

Cheers.

Well, let's be honest, if you're just looking for a room in Diamond City, set yourself up the Home Plate.

You could set up in Hangman's Alley.

I use Hangman's Alley. I don't even have any settlers assigned there, but I do have a supply line to there from another settlement so that I have access to all my raw materials for power armor repair and mod creation.

You would think there would be some sort of player safe home or area in Goodneighbor, but there isn't. Hangman's Alley, Bunker Hill and The Castle form a triangle around the downtown area with nothing in the middle for the player to occupy, except perhaps for RailRoad HQ.

The place I wanted to settle and claim as my own was Vault 114.

Hangman's alley is a good location since you can build a base there so it will have all the workbenchs that you could want and totally safe storage.

I know but its awful. So big and cavernous. Horrible overbright lighting. This weird rattling noise. And no ingame music.

Plus it isn't a true base. I wanted to send all my followers there but I couldn't. I also wanted to repair the floors or add walls but nope. Be nice to have more settlement locations in Downtown but it might be a bit dangerous to do so.

Plus home plate doesn't let you build crafting stations, what the hell?

I never trust any of the existing containers. Not until the Creation Kit is out and people can guarantee that a container doesn't have any leveled lists assigned to it. For now you'll have to scrap pretty much everything when you gain a settlement and/or only use containers you've personally built to store items. Even then I've seen people talk about settlers grabbing weapons from containers. Never seen it happen myself, but it's an extra reason to be cautious.

Honestly, Home Plate is an abomination in my eyes. Just a worthless caps sink. It has absolutely NO positive aspects. In fact, it introduces an additional negative aspect by requiring an extra loading screen if you use it.

I don't use the console to "cheat" (just fix bugs, remove persistent dead bodies, that kind of thing) but when I bought Home Plate - early in the game when caps still mattered a lot - I was so annoyed with it that I used the console to give myself back the 2000 Caps and never went back inside it (except for the occasional fast travel accident when shooting for the market.)
