You know what would have been great for Dogmeat?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 2:56 am

If he was a synth spy.

Stick with me here. Dogmeat doesn't make much sense as a character. He instantly follows you, is perfectly loyal, and can understand any command given to him. These are all unusual, especially the part about him being instantly loyal. Dogmeat is clearly trained to kill, and attack dogs like them don't trust strangers easily. On top of all that, there is the fact that he is the only dog in the wasteland unaffected by radiation. Things about him just don't add up. Unless of course, it was all an institute set up.

The Institute was known to plant synths into positions of power. The institute was researching how to create other creatures, not just humans. The institute needed a way to keep tabs on someone as important as you, and who would suspect their loyal pet dog? It explains everything, and fits perfectly with the established facts. What do you guys think?

Dogmeat is actually Coyote incarnate, here to cause much mischief in the life of the Sole Survivor. A synth simply following Player would know better than to block doors, rouse sleeping enemies, or "find something" that is floating out of sight 20 or 30 feet in the air...

I actually think that would have been a really cool development to the story, but he's not forced to be your companion so if you just greet him and then send him to Sanctuary or something, it'd kind of defeat the purpose. I guess he could 'spy' on the settlement like a certain other NPC does.

Animals do have "6th" sense. Dogmeat had to have a previous owner in order to be trained the way he is. Maybe our character resembles them. Also he is not technically a feral dog so he would be trusting of someone that he does not feel threatened by. Probably hungry too and would know a friendly person is his best bet for survival.

You can use spoiler tags by typing [ spoiler]*spoiler here*[ /spoiler]

Without the space after the opening bracket obviously. Just for future reference :)

I really like this theory. It makes sense and isn't to 'far fetched' (see what I did there?). Ever seen the ravens flying around? Yup. Synths. Reading through terminals give you insight to how the institute gets their intel and having dog synth would be pretty smart.

You should take everything she say with a large grain of salt, being the raging druggie that she is. She make TT look like an amateur.

I have a hard time believing this Dogmeat is the same Dogmeat from FO3. I have an equally hard time believing it is one of his puppies. They would be ten years old by now, and with a dog that age and size, in a nuclear wasteland, I'd be surprised as hell if any dog lives that long...unless they are born and raised in a vault from untarnished doggie DNA.

I hit up a raider installation the other day and by rifling through their computer consoles:

Spoiler

Apparently she's never wrong, so much so that the raider leader was looking for her and, in lieu of finding here, is trying to re-create the ability to "see" in others.

I thought the Institute had troubles with animal synths.

OP. I like your thinking.

And Communism also worked on the whole super soldier and spy thing too. So Dogmeat could also be a double spy against everyone!

Dogmeat never had an owner. Mama Murphy has explained that Dogmeat is "his own man". He chooses the right people to be loyal to and will help them out but otherwise, he takes care of himself and explores the wasteland trying to find people whom he'll trust or provide help. Nick Valentine will even mention that Dogmeat has helped him with a few of his cases.

I find my Settlement Brahmin replaced by Synths fairly often.

They start acting funky, run when you get near them, and eventually you can run them out of the settlement.

Then you shoot them.

Loot the corpse, and you will find and Institute Pistol.

But... that does not mean that in his early days, Dogmeat was NOT trained by some of the people he chose to help, eh? How helpful can an untrained puppy be?
