How do water pumps work?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 8:39 am

Hi all, this is my first FO game, so im still trying to figure stuff out. I built a bunch of water pumps at my red rocket fort. Two questions:

1. What does manually pumping accomplish?

2. How/when/how much purified water do the pumps produce? Sometimes i come home to find other 100+ purified water in my workbench, sometimes i leave for longer and come back to find none, as in zero.

So how do they work exactly? Thanks!

Pumps you just put on dirt, nothing else needs to be done. Water pumps same thing but put them in water. Also I think settlers will sell water if too much accumulates? I'm not sure tbh.

So what is the point of manually pumping them?

Not all settlements are by water, if you mean activating them it's probably to drink water which recovers health.

Not water purifiers, water pumps. The ones you just stick in the dirt. You can walk up to them and pump water. What im trying to figure out is if that actually does anything?

I think it heals you a bit, but mostly the manual pumping is a "just for flavor" type of thing.

It really doesn't affect anything.

It's the same as drinking from a sink (or toilet.) It gives you some health.

Yes it's an npc interaction the player can do too, like the manual grain mil in Skyrim

Having them produce dirty water on pump would make sense

Pumping water to heal yourself doesn't work if you play on Survivor difficulty... at least that is the case in my game after increasing the difficulty from Hard.
