Gatling laser without high int still good?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 7:10 am

Hi

I am playing a low int character but one with heavy gun focus along with melee.

My question is, is the gatling laser still powerful later in the game without the science perk to upgrade it?

Also is it viable without nuclear physicist to reduce fusion core usage?

Maybe, I think Procter Teagan sold one that was already fully upgraded including the charging barrels but I can't recall and it may no that have had the top of the line Receiver. Otherwise no, you need to be able to upgrade the Receiver part. You don't need the nuclear physics perk, yes fusion cores are expensive but one core provides 500 shots before applying the perk.

Steal Maxon's Gatling laser 25% higher RoF and 50% faster reload is worth the 3 pickpocket points to steal equipped weapons or flat out kill him for it either one.

But ya if you find one with mods already on it than you don't need science to put it on a different rifle.

Depends, what difficulty are you playing? If it's normal or below, chances are you can skate by using just about any weapon, just make sure if packing the gatling laser that you have a LOT of fusion cores because you will expend ammo fast if that weapon doesn't have the barrel on it that slows down it's firing speed. You'll not have nuclear physicist either to further conserve fusion core usage. If you play on survival where enemies take many more hits then you will need every damage upgrade possible to stay competitive and the gatling type weapons already have a rather low damage per shot ratio, some of the worst in the game really.

Not without a weapon attached, if you have low ranks in science you could make the low end mod in order to remove the high end mods from one weapon and put them on another.

Per-shot the Gatling laser is the cheapest weapon to feed. If the fusion core cost you 500caps that's 1 cap per shot before applying perks.

I did mention the slower firing barrel already, but the OP isn't working with the science perk, so he'd have to get lucky and find a vendor who either sells the mod or has one installed on a gun already. Even under the best conditions it is a shame how far this weapon falls behind semi automatic rifles for example. It's usable don't get me wrong, I've done so on a high intelligence power armor build on survival mode and it gets the job done, but a good combat rifle can also get the job done with a fraction of the work. Plus you can get it way earlier in the game and ammo for it is stupidly common.

Doesn't count, it only applies to ONE weapon. There's no reason to confuse the issue.

Yes and no.

A furious Gatling Laser is a beast if you use the standard barrels.(like tears through legendary Albino Deathclaw on survival in 10 seconds).

A normal Gatling Laser with the charge barrels is always a beast.

Proctor Teagan can sell all the mods for the Gatling laser once you get to be a Paladin, but its random.

Normally the Gatling laser drains a full a core. With the bobble head it drains 91% of the fusion core.

With the bobblehead and nuclear physicist it drains 46% of the fusion core allowing each fusion core to be used twice and still have 8% on the core.

Proctor Teagan sells Gatling lasers, usually with good mods, I have bought my max out one from him, although most of the time he has not quite the best capacitor on it. The charging barrels are to most important mod and he usually has it attached.

I still have intelligence 1 and now i am in the BOS i instantly jad access to a gatling laser and the store also had the charging barrels. 56 damage per shot, i have 50 fusion cores because so far i rarely use Power Armour.

Seems really powerful without any heavy weapons upgrades so far...

Also got the quad barrel targeting missile launcher and found a fully modded flamer which is ace. No sciece or gun nut invested.
