Danse, BoS, and Endgame

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 3:36 pm

I have finally met the Institute and Father and am already trying to decide on how to approach the endgame. Currently, Danse is my loyal companion (and lover), and therefore I have a difficult decision to make: I know that if I side against the Brotherhood of Steel for the endgame, Danse will distance himself from me and only be able to partake in trading. But on the other hand, if I side with the BoS, then that could mean that BoS members and Vertibirds and so forth will be patrolling the Commonwealth, which means that if I keep Danse as a companion, he and I will be at high risk of attack due to the consequences of Blind Betrayal.

So I have a few simple questions:

1.) Does siding with the BoS in the game put you and Danse at risk like Maxson warned?

2.) Would Minutemen be the best faction to side with, taking the options to keep BoS and Railroad alive? And is this possible, too?

I will say that so far I haven't felt anything for the Railroad and its members, so I really don't care what happens to them (though if I can keep them alive at the end, I will definitely try). BoS is a bit sketchy, and Maxson is unlikable, but I have Danse and Hayley to make me give a d@mn about the group.

I got attacked by BoS while traveling to Diamond City with my husbando, so yes, any BoS will shoot at you whenever they see you, but I don't see them respawn in city after I wiped them out. Maybe it needs more time.

If you side with the Minutemen, the Minutemen will pop up everywhere just like with the BoS, and they won't shoot you. Siding with the Minutemen will allow you to keep both BoS and RR alive, yes.

If you play on console, do the RR because if you want to be fashionable with protection instead of that terrible Power Armor interface and heavy clunking sound you need to do RR quests until they give you Ballistic Weave that give regular clothes extra defense.

Oh yes, I certainly did do RR quests until I unlocked Balistic Weave, so I still get to wear my military fatigues. :) That's good to know that Minutemen are the safest option, though I will have to remember that in order to continue BoS quests I will have to bring another companion along or go solo.

I sided with the BOS with Danse as an LI and didn't have too many problems with him being attacked all the time. There are few spots where BOS soldiers are almost guaranteed to be (Nahant is one, Quincey is another) that I just don't take him to. I also have next to no reason to go to either of those places. The random encounters with BOS patrols happen infrequently enough that I can usually just avoid them by crouching in a corner and telling him to wait until the Vertibird passes by or else just going in a wide circle around them so they don't see us.

If you are attacked I usually just let Danse kill them. I won't kill them but if they are stupid enough to attack one of the best soldiers they had who is wearing fully upgrade X-01 and potent upgraded weapons I'm certainly not going to save them either. He always makes mincemeat of them and it doesn't change my standing with the BOS at all. Having no one survive attacking him so they can report they saw him tends to do that I guess.

The only thing I found actively annoying was that post game some BOS soldiers will basically camp out in the market in Diamond City which makes it borderline impossible to take him there to sell stuff without creating a bloodbath. This was also less of an issue when I built up a market in Sanctuary because my own merchants had more caps and better gear anyway.

Also, it is totally possible to side with the Minutemen and keep the RR and BOS alive. I've done this too. I basically just told father off following the Battle of Bunker Hill and never talked to Kells about the Tactical Thinking mission. Almost everyone in the BOS even approves of this route. You just get a few snide remarks from random knights that they wish you had told them.
