"VATS is a built in cheat"

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 12:52 pm

Indeed I have some 'under bridge' experience. You were fine till you claimed, in your own defense I do admit, that PA was cheating.

As for online multi player, it's been a while. I don't count ESO PvP as it's not at all like a shooter. I was good once., played a lot of Q3.

This, now use an fully oppgraded x-01, I have 1 in endurance and no perk in that line to keep health low. An glass cannon something I found fit my playstyle well in FO3 and Skyrim.

Now with power armor I can tank, did it in the MM fight against the institute who was an target rich environment and the minutemen had low health an no armor. (we should be able to gear up troops like that)

Only used vat against some stupid wall turrets and for friend / foe identification.

VAT is nice in close combat with friendlies in the mix. also extremely helpful if you get jumped with an scoped weapon they are totally useless outside of long range sniping, now in real world an short scope works well for point and shoot.

Aiming against unaware or incoming targets are far more accurate outside of VAT.

Carry 4 weapons, Gaus for long range sniping, two shot automatic laser rifle for close in high dps work, explosive minigun for high dps and not point blank work also nice against enemies behind cover.

Overseer guardian as default gun, only one who is useful in VAT, yes use VAT with gaus is jumped, the two high dps ones is pretty pointless in VAT.

Also, it's a holdover mechanic from actual roleplaying, where the player relied on the skills of the PC they built over time, as opposed to having rely on their own skills. I'm fine with FPS games, and am probably better than the average bear at it having engorged on them for well over 20 years now; but actual role-players where you rely solely on the skills of the character you build is becoming more and more rare.

At least Bethesda still offers a that partial build illusion, even if I don't use VATS, but to spot mines or bad guys in low visibility. So yeah, I guess I'm a bit of a cheater.

Hard here, but with nothing into endurance to keep health low, i like the sudden death part.

Yes, in Bethesda games like Daggerfall and newer you have to hit the target. FO3 had an interesting mix where your weapon spread was dependent on skill.

This was an an pretty Morrowind or Daggerfall like functionality, yes as it was range dependent waithing behind an corner and use VAT as enemy turned always work unless to many enemies.

At high skill you got aim assist, remember aiming above the head of enemies in mothership zeta, and the gatling laser adjusted to headshot and jumped to next target on kill.

As someone who likes FPS and is a old DOOM vet, and someone that likes RPG's and is a old Fallout fan I can say without a doubt the two are different. And if someone wants to use vats, it's not a cheat. It makes it into a turn base game almost. Especially now where you can still be harmed. It would be nice improvement wise if there was a dial for speed of combat while in vats though. But no, not a cheat. And even if it where. Who the heck cares how someone wants to play THERE paid for game...

People are forgetting that not all have good eyesight. I have very good eyesight, and I can have trouble spotting enemies when they run behind bushes (the colours blend very well into each other). Using VATS will let you spot them, even with poor eyesight. It is also good for those who have trouble with fps in general.

Also, I don't view it as a cheat. It is just a form of bullet-time mechanic in my view, altho in the earlier games, it was needed (turn based combat) I use it occasionally, like when you are swarmed by bugs (there are several locations where you can encounter 6+ assorted flying things). Since the game calculates spread, even if your aim is dead on, you might still miss. So taking some high %'s when swarmed can be better in the long run.

Lastly, it is a single player game, as pointed out a lot in this thread. So who cares what people do in their game.

When I first heard and seen VATS in action, I thought it was a bit of a cheat. But when I learned that hitting the enemy is not a 100% thing, I changed my mind.

Especially playing on a console against small, mobile enemies like Bloatflies and Stingwings.

Its sad to see people posting who either didn't read or chose to ignore the forum rules.

This can close now. It would be best to not reopen it. Single player games can have all the cheats in the world and an "easy" button as well. Won't change anything in anyone else's game.
