Why is Stendarr represented by spilled wine glass?

Stendarr's symbol is a tipped over wine glass. Why?

It's a chalice from which something is being poured. Stendarr is among other things a god of charity.

Would you happen to know the significance of the chalice's contents being poured out? Or the significance of the chalice itself?

I've always associated it with the Mercy aspect, i.e the giving of water.
