Frequent crashes and yellow diamonds

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 10:11 am

I have been playing Oblivion for quite a while now, but there have been things bothering me since the start, and I am getting tired of them.

First off: the game frequently crashes on me. It seems to happen when it tries to load a new area, such as when I enter/exit a city, fast travel or walk around in the wilderness. However, the game sometimes flat out freezes when I open the inventory menu or pause menu. The mouse cursor becomes immovable, but there's still sounds and music in the background.

The second thing is that I have come to see a lot of semi-transparent, yellow diamonds with grey exclamation marks in the middle. Most of them are located at all cave and mine entrances. What is supposed to be behind the actual doors to the caves, is completely missing. There's only a big, yellow diamond there instead.

I have also found these diamonds in chapels, city castles and the Imperial City. The most notable one I have encountered is when I was doing the The Ultimate Heist quest. Where the Glass of Time was supposed to be located, there was absolutely nothing but two enormous, yellow diamonds clipping through the walls and each other. I was going to post a topic about it, but I managed to use a work-around. This is the only time (so far) where these things have been indicating any serious issues. Most of which I have encountered, nothing has been missing or been obviously wrong.

And while I'm at it; in the Imperial Palace Basemant, is there supposed to be a gigantic chair just a few meters away from the Glass of Time? I can't sit on it, but it looks very misplaced and nearly reaches the freaking ceiling.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do about the crashes and diamonds, or at least have an explanation for them? I play on the 5th Anniversary Edition, with both expansions installed. Mods activated include the Unofficial Oblivion Patch and Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch. Thanks in advance!

Yellow triangles indicate missing meshes. This can be related to buggy mods. You can try reinstalling the game also, or if its a Steam copy, verifying the game cache.

Even if you reinstalling the game it doesn't help us if you later need our help for your issue, which is likely a mod issue. So post loadorder here and let us take a closer look at it. :)

Let me ask you. Do you use a mod manager e.g Wrye Bash, OBMM by any chance?

Then you should learn how to use a mod manager, especially when you want to play a modded game at the same time also have it stable without any issues.

I know Wrye Bash has a steep learning curve, but trust me it's worth it despite for spending some time to learn how to use it features and all features in Wrye Bash are indeed powerful. http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/35230 is a pictured quick guide for http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/22368.

You also need some useful tools that are essential for Oblivion and some of those tools work for Skyrim too, except for BOSS insted you need to use LOOT to sort your loadorder.

http://wiki.theassimilationlab.com/tescosi/ can you find tutorials and more information about how to mod Oblivion.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1540888-boss-for-oblivion-thread-50/ (highly recommended for Oblivion)

TES5Edit

LOOT (highly recommended for Skyrim)
