Freezing up and crashes

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 5:09 pm

1 - i have had Oblivion, Shivering Isles, and Knghts of Nine since they came out (and the Oblivion Collector's Edition) - worked completly with our XP all the way through doing 100 % of the entire game (every quest and more)

2 - BUT using Melinium, windows 7, windows 8, and now my new dec 2015 Windows 10 with 32 gigs of ram, i7, 6th generation the game crashes after playing for a couple of weeks - Hard to describe but

Problem is - game flames (fire) through out game (ie in the Smugglers Den and at the Wizards tower warp pads) and torches and when you enter shivering isles where the hundreds of butterflies come out to open the interior doors -

with the XP they never stop working or slowing down - but with every system since after playing for a couple of weeks normally the flames and warp areas and healing with restoration start slowing down then totally freezing

entirely - and the flames totally stop, restoration bubbles stop and game either freezes on the screen and force me to restart computer to get to close or directly freezes and kicks me out of the game.

I have tried to down load the patch but only in the XP does it work - keeps saying does not match another folder...

It seems like a video problem but I have a high level video card

Problem 2 - I remember when game came out is said it was for XP but I and my friends have the same problem unless we use out XP computers (yes we only play single games not on line)

I had sent messages years ago about upgrading from XP to Millienium computer and they said there will be no conversion - has it been done to help this problem -

Additionally - the people and creatures do not slow down only what seems as the video for the flames, or restoration, or bubbles movement.

3 - also can I get the free or I will pay for a tech support number so I can properly explain the problem . thankyou for your time

This sounds like the A-Bomb (animation bomb.) If so, you can fix it with either Wrye Bash, or with an executable called the "Oblivion Animation Fixer." It's funny you'd be getting the A-Bomb this fast, though, unless you're playing like 100 hours a week.

That does, indeed, sound like the A-Bomb glitch. Follow what glargg said.

Also, there's a reason you're crashing more on OS's after XP - Microsoft removed DirectSound (what Oblivion used for sound purposes) and thus the CPU for Windows Vista and up has to take the brunt of the processing power for sound. That leads to performance issues which leads to crashes.
