Winterhold Investigators Chest

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 5:00 pm

Just now probably used up about 30 lockpicks trying to get this wretched chest open. But am glad to say that not only did I get it open and the rings contained within but also levelled up in lock picking from 32 to 35.

What do you guys do regarding this chest? Do you bother with finding the Dremora's treasure? I nearly always now do this quest as I always try to have as much coin as I can.

It is called "Forgotten Names" and involves that Dremora-looking hand down in the Midden at the CoW.

Huh. I had no idea the hand was related to a quest. I've probably stared at if for hours over the span of playing and never figured it out.

I've done the quest a couple of times. I didn't think the pay off was that great, but it's still an interesting little diversion. Here's a tip for unlocking leveled chests: Make a follower do it.

This the type of quest I absolutely long to have more of. Quests that are only obtained through diligent observation with in-game rewards from actually reading volumes of text. We cannot have enough of this kind of stuff.

I cut down a dremora and send him to the void of Oblivion to think on what he's done and how he got spanked by a mere mortal.

Me too. I never payed attention to the chest in the library, and I thought the hand was just a cool shrine or something.

I only found out what the hand actually does by finding a YouTube video about it. :)

And also I had no idea that followers could unlock chests, but then I never bother to command my followers except for Boethiah's Calling quest.

So long as they can get to the chest, they will unlock it no matter what level chest it is. But doors confound them.

I didn't know this. I'm very good at lock picking so I never even thought to ask someone else to do it. Now I just have to try it out.
