Is Stalhrim armour the best heavy armour?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 10:45 pm

I've got both the Deathbrand set and the full Stalhrim set. Deathbrand is light armour and Stalhrim is heavy. Are they the absolute best for each?

I understand that there's a light dragonscale armour and a heavy dragonbone armour. What about Daedric? Help please!

Pretty sure Stalhrim is equal to Ebony so both Daedric and Dragonbone are better heavy, while I think only Glass and Dragonscale are better light

I know a lot of people like stalhrim, but I never could warm up to it. Just looks a bit too bright blue for my tastes. Hard to be a hardcoe dragon slayer in pastel.

Stalhrim is overall second best type in both light and heavy categories. Only dragonscale (light) and daedric (heavy) are better.

Also.......do not believe the Wiki guff in the link about armour cap..... The cap is an arbitrary value beyond which Damage reduction is noticeably reduced compared to the rise in AR. The fact is....more armour rating still gives more protection....albeit at a diminishing rate.

This fact is not made clear in the Wiki article and leaves the reader to believe there is no benefit in smithing beyond the cap. Scurrilous lies!

But don't believe me......smith up some really high armour like dragonscale over AR 1000 then find a strong npc to deal you some damage and do the experiment...... I did.

The compete credit for putting me straight on this belongs to Sah (Vulon). If I had not listened to her, I would still be leaving my AR around 650 believing it to have maxed out for damage reduction.

Thank you Sah

It has been my experience that surprisingly, I get the highest Armor rating when wearing Falmer Heavy (or Hardened, I confuse the two) Armor. Surpasses even Daedric (which is what I would have thought to be the best). Improve a full set of Falmer armor improved to Legendary + have the full Heavy Armor perk set and the AR value goes well past 1000. The only thing I don't like about Falmer armor is that the helms are sightless. (The Falmer being, after all, all blind, they have no need to leave vision slits.)

Just checked my last game from back around June. (I replayed FO3 and now am playing FO4.) It's Heavy Armor (not Hardened). And the Armor rating is 2931.
