I'm on my first and only Skyrim character right now. He's a Breton named David Newman. He's the Dave-ahkiin.

Best character names? Anuwen, my Bosmer female main character, and Tascus Caligulus IV, a male Imperial. Buuuuut, I wouldn't call Tascus a warrior. He spends most his time running away. :nope: Other characters I've played I try to stick to lore friendly names.

I'm not much for names, but my favorite thus far is my male Nord, Riik Storm-Dancer. Riik means "Gale" in the language of dragons. His concept was a dual wielding shortblade master that enjoyed the Call Storm shout, to the second word (rain and lightning). Watching him "dance" in the storms he called was truly epic.

Until... He used it while helping the Stormcloaks assault a fort. (oops!)

Here are a few of my favorites:

Amaryis -- Forsworn Shaman. A vision informed her of a place called "Helgen." Set out on to find it and discovered Helgen in ruins. A note urged her to alert nearby Riverwood and, from there on, got svcked into events in the larger world outside her tribe, often against her better judgement. Abandoned main quest several times because of cultural differences with people she met. But finally defeated Alduin and returned to her tribe. Became Matriarch, unified feuding tribes and established detente with Markarth. Eventually brokered a fragile peace with other towns and other Holds around Skyrim. Live Another Life made both the Forsworn start and the encounter at Helgen possible. Will probably write her life story up as a book and put drop it into my copy of TES VI for my own amusemant.

Eowyn and Aemyn Eawulf -- Twin Nord sisters. One "disappears" halfway through her game, is recreated as an NPC and dropped at random into the game world. The other searches far and wide to find her.

Nirai Ashushshirari -- A Dunmer descendent of Morrowind Mabrigash NPC Yanabani Ashushshirari. Joined the College of Winterhold but dropped out halfway though her studies, preferring to learn magic in her own fashion. Recreated as an NPC. Now lives with Lami in Morthal and helps her run Thaumaturgist's Hut in subsequent games.

Liriele Serethi -- A Dunmer who grew up an orphan on the streets of Windhelm's Gray Quarter. Consistently got in trouble with the law there for stealing and pickpocketing and, at level 12, left Windhelm after hearing rumors of a Thieves Guild in Riften. Eventually ascended to become Guildmaster of the Thieves Guild. Used LAL to start her game in Windhelm.

Nariene -- Nord tavern wench working in Frostfruit Inn in Rorikstead. Her parents were both adventurers who died when she was young. She has kept her mother's Ancient Nord Greatsword wrapped in a blanket under her bed for years. Leaves Rorikstead for a better job at the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. But before she could enter the city she got involved in a fight with a Giant. Recruited into Companions and found in the Companions the family and support she had not known since early childhood.

I'm pretty good with naming characters in general and TES is no exception. To name just a small few I have Solthuriel the Falmer Paladin, Vanduramel the Altmer Justicar, Dar'Zrago the Khajiit Thief, Drothas Indoril the ex-Ordinator Dunmer, Uriil the Bosmer Huntsman, Kurigar the Orc Berserker, Nahgahdinok the Nord Dragonpriest, and lastly my favorite name Swims-In-Blood the Argonian Shadowscale (unfortunately this name is already taken in ESO much to my dismay)

Presenting.....

Contessa Adella Di Nascosta-mente

At your service.......But just Adella to her friends. :)

Adella is not a Role Play char as such, but is multi role capable in a variety of disciplines. She excels particularly in theatres of conflict, but can handle herself with the required aplomb in matters of court. Her title is an adopted affectation and does not indicate an association with any particular Tamrielic aristocracy and is in no way related to Janus Hassildor.....and even if she was she wouldn't admit it.....just to be quite clear.

I've probably got 10k names in files around.... making up names is something I do for fun. I'm not sure I could pick favorite character names in this or any game - I figure since 1985 (when I discovered CRPGs), I've probably had 5k game toons....

I don't even have all the names from release of this game (other than that I could go pick them out of files maybe) - I deleted all the save files when I started playing again. Somewhere on a dvd I probably still have save files from release forward, not really sure. I keep closer track of "important stuff" backups, really I do!

I like Jaelli Telvarna, the half-elf in my current avatar; and Serethil Edhellin, the half-elf from my previous avatar; and Verinne Ravenwing, from an offshoot Nord clan with groups in both the Bruma area and near Kynesgrove in Skyrim. Oh, and a long-ago Khajiit named Ri'jandi, thief and adventurer extraordinaire!

Lost-His-Shoes was the first Argonian I ever played back in Morrowind. The rest will be revealed in the screenshot thread at a later date.

Serethil.......that is AMAZING!

So in 30 years you have gone through 5 THOUSAND characters ( sorry I can't bring myself to use your er' term)

That's like a thousand every six years or over 150 characters per year

That's um .....three characters per week on average!

WOW! You really burn through your Role Plays

Yeah. Lots of those were simultaneous - in games like the Gold Box Forgotten Realms games, you could have 6 toons - like a "real" AD&D party. Each of them had a full backstory, along with a story about how they all wound up together. I played those games until the Baldur's Gate series came out, then I played those until I found the TES games, which I played until I got sidetracked by WoW (where I had between 70 and a hundred toons for the most part - at one point I had 7 active accounts....) which I played for 8 years until I left it permanently and played RIFT for a couple of years - in RIFT I "only" had 5 accounts, and around 45 toons....

I never really quit playing TES though. I would like to go back to the BG games, but I can only get the newer "redone" version through download, and I don't have the bandwidth....

Just a few

http://i.imgur.com/RKS9aUW.jpg Adain mean's Winged, but was chosen because I like the name, Folkvadr mean's "Guardian of the People". Adain was Erik's best friend ( Alternate start) an adventurer that became Dragonborn and Thane of Helgen ( Helgen Reborn mod)

http://i.imgur.com/yhGEzQw.jpg is my version of another spelling the name mean's "voice of an Angel", She was my Bard/ Assassin.

http://i.imgur.com/H48BXF6.jpg DiD character Talayeh " Golden Ray of Sun" , Aegileif actually mean's Daughter of Hrolf Helgason... but it sounded good for a Nordic name..

I generally pick names that I like the sound of...or if I want a specific name meaning I look up it up with "names meaning XXX" and go from their.

I don't know about "best," but my favorite character name so far is Hrafna Blodsvorr. It's not all that original, but I like it. "Hrafna" is derived from the Old Norse word for "raven," and Blodsvorr is an anglicized version of a kenning for the same thing that supposedly means "blood swan" or "blood bird" or something like that. The character started as an enthralled vampire (thanks to an alternate start mod), snapped out of it, got herself cured, and is now "training" with the Companions until she feels ready to take arms under the Dawnguard.

So I have 5 characters and I'm pretty happy with their names.

Birgitte - no last name except she's an unofficial Telvanni. Breton who started out as an alchemist spellsword and has become full-on battlemage thanks to hubby Farkas convincing her she needs to wear real armor, and Neloth f-ing up her Destruction magic so she relied on Conjuring instead and, whoa, Bound Weapons are the way to go! Named her after the character Birgitte Silverbow in the Wheel of Time series, though she is the exact opposite of a statuesque, blonde, sharpshooting demigoddess.

Orandir - no last name. Wood Elf thief/archer. When I thought of "Elf" and "Archer" I thought of Legolas, so Orandir is a Tamriel-ish variation on Orlando (as in Bloom).

Karsi Bone-Breaker (thanks, Galmar) - Nord warrior woman, Stormcloak. Uses greatswords and Restoration magic. Travels with Erik the Slayer - the Max to her Furiosa. (OK, I just realized I need an Orc character and she must be named Furiosa). I named her after the Wildling Chieftain in the Hardhome episode of Game of Thrones.

Xiomara - pronounced "SHOW Mara"or as I like to call her, "Evil Kitty". Khajit vampire, assassin and player of Daedra games. I'm Cuban-American and Xiomara is the name of a popular Cuban singer who played Celia Cruz in an off-Broadway musical based on her life. The name felt kind of Khajit-ish so I ran with it.

Gaius Marcellus Cato - the Sheriff. Imperial ex-legionnaire looking to find purpose on the outside. Dances with a sword in one hand an an axe in the other. I named him the most Roman sounding thing I could think of tha didn't actually hve the word Caesar in it.

Aww, thanks. It actually started as just the 'Bowgirl' as far back as Diablo II (she's been gaming for a couple decades). But surely it can't compete with a name as cool a Brigitte Silverbow!

Acadian, having gotten to know Buffy through her journal in your sig, I count myself among those who find her name as endearing as the Bowgirl herself.
