I wish that they were more expensive, as well. It would definitely make it more interesting... having to make a choice to spend the cash, buy a horse and ride to the destination yourself, or hike it. I understand it's a way to help the early level characters travel Skyrim without fear of dangerous encounters, but being a seasoned player, I'd like to see more economic restrictions like that. I also wish there were a hardcoe Mode, but I can't have it all!

I rarely ever use the carriages anyway.

Though I do note that carriage rides and vanilla inn prices are all lower then a typical meal cost.

The prices of everything would need to be adjusted because why pay for a carriage when you can just buy a horse for just a little more gold? Or fast travel for free. Why pay for an inn room if you can just buy a cheap house in Whiterun? Or join the local guild and sleep there for free. And that's assuming people bother to sleep at all. Roleplaying aside, just waiting in the middle of town for a few hours has exactly the same effect as sleeping in a bed for my werewolf character.

Plus, we are all looking at it from the perspective of advanced players. Someone who is truly new to the game and/or RPGs may have some trouble scrounging 20 gold to get somewhere when they spent all the gold they had on things they thought they needed at a shop, or had to spend it all (along with half of their equipment) on a single cure disease potion from having gotten bitten by a wolf.
