My first toon is level 72 and I have about 200 gameplay hours. Second toon is level 23 and has about 25 gameplay hours. I have every achievement possible for single playthrough. I have done every major quest line. I have discovered 95% of locations, have the best gear etc etc. I say all this to show my experience with the game over the last month has been extensive. I LOVE this game series and have played since Fallout 2 launch.
That said, three important things are majorly lacking in this chapter of the Fallout universe for me. These are the title of the thread obviously and here I will go into detail with the hopes that a dev may get bored on a break and browse through here
KARMA: The lack of the Karma system in this game is one of the most jarring things that is presented. Fallout had always been a dark comedic world where you got to choose what was and what wasn't across the line. Karma was one of the defining traits for me in character identity and was one of the driving forces behind replay value for me. The fact that we are forced to be either the Hero or the Anti-Hero is rather disturbing. I cannot be a villian, I cannot play the nuetral path where pragmatism and greed rule decisions, not morality. It added a lot to the game and there is nothing stopping it being added in an expansion. The Gunners offer an opportunity for the player to join a faction that is hated and maniacal. If not an actual Karma stat, we need the moral alternative to the goody two shoes story that is presented to us.
CONVERSATIONS: Copying Dragon Ages conversation system was not a good decision. Bethesda games have always relied on dialogue to immerse you into the world and your character but the restrictions of ALWAYS having four options is a bit grating. In most situations my actual response has no impact on the conversation, my options are generally: X Sarcastic Agreement, A Kind Agreement, Y Questioning Agreement,
B Disagreement. Also not letting us see what our character is ACTUALLY going to say is a bit frustrating. The lack of perk based responses is also a great loss on the game. Having the ability to say something special because your intellect is 9 or you are able to bypass a conflict situation because you are both cannibals etc. I have not seen a single instance of this in either playthrough.
WEAPONS & ARMOR: Diversity. There is a severe lack of it. Most clothing conflicts with armor and offers relatively little bonus. As a cosmetic item it is almost useless as good armor covers the majority of its appearance. Armor is basically Leather, Raider, Combat and Metal. There are "Heavy" versions of each that have a better cosmetic appearance and stats. Weapon Diversity is nearly as bad. If you are a pistol user you have 4 options. If you are a rifle user you have the best diversity. If you want to focus Big Guns, good luck finding ammo for anything but your junk jet. Melee has quite a few options but there is little difference between weapons unless you are comparing quick one handed to slow two handed. Unarmed is a joke this time. We need things like .22, .357, .44 and ammo mods like cryo and incediary etc. We need things like the ability to paint our armor and guns in a similar way to our power armor.
I enjoyed this game thoroughly enough on my first playthough to have blinders to these things, on my second it is becoming more apparent. I hope this feedback finds its way to the right eyeballs. Happy Holidays
