Legendary weapons going missing

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 3:24 pm

Recently I've discovered some of my stashed items are going missing. After having saved a buttload of caps and selling literally tons of purified water I managed to buy the last minute from Ronnie shaw, only to find out the ammo is quite hard to come by.

Naturally I stashed it away in my "I'm a weapon hoarder" crate at sanctuary and went on with business.

Eventually I was able to buy a stack of more than just a couple rounds for it at atom cats. So the next time I came home to sanctuary I tried to pull it from my toy box, only to discover it wasn't there. After frantically checking all my crates just to be sure, I started going back through my saves to see when it disappeared. Turned out it disappeared roughly 6 hours, several long quests, and a whole fortress built earlier somewhere between 2 days 9 hours 15 minutes play time and 2 days 10 hours and 4 minutes.

Further investigation revealed to me that my big boy also disappeared from that same trunk about 10 hours previous.

Of course Ronnie shaw won't sell me a new one either.

Has anyone had this happen? Maybe find a work around or a way to restore them?

No I can't use console commands, I'm on ps4

This is more likely that your settlers have taken it than a glitch. Don't leave things in crates where they can access them. Keeping them in the red workbench is much safer, I've never had anything go missing from that. (Likewise, never leave your fusion cores in your Power Armor -- settlers can and will steal it.)

Try using the "trade" option with anyone in the settlements to see if they have it in their inventories and you can get it back. Merchants like Carla can also take them when passing through if there's an attack while they're there.

It might be possible NPCs can steal weapons out of red work bench as well.

Long Couple in my sanctuary both somehow acquired legendary melee weapons... which I suspect to be taken out of my red work bench.

Similarly, when you have junk scrap perk lvl 2, you can see red work bench glowing for containing the junk you need. It might not be too different from other containers afterall.

The absolute safest thing to do is probably build a platform you need steps to, store them in a container there, then delete the steps. They won't be able to get to it to loot it and you can just build yourself some stairs in workshop mode whenever you need to get to it. (Or use a jet pack.)
