Supply Line issues!

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 8:00 pm

Ok folks....this is a long one. But I am hoping to find the solution here for something that is not easily explained.

I currently have 16 settlements. When I initially started my Supply Line network, everything was coming out of Sanctuary Hills. Meaning, I had 8 settlers from Sanctuary Hills going to different settlements to share resources. In doing this, I noticed that it made an impact to the amount of workers left in the settlements, and created shortages for supplies needed for happiness.

So in order to minimize the impact to any one settlement, I decided to remove all Supply Lines (which was a whole other issue) and start over. This took hours....

Now I have started running a Supply Line from one settlement to another, travel to the destination settlement, select another settler and send them to the next settlement. Kinda like a daisy chain effect. Assuming this is what most have done once they realized the downside of sending them all out from one settlement.

Ok, so the dilema! I have started setting things up, and have run into issues in the list when assigning settlers to new sites. Currently I have these in place.

Sanctuary Hills > Abernathy Farm

Abernathy Farm > Outpost Zimonya

Now I go to Outpost Zimonya, go into Workshop mode, highlight a settler, and bring up the Supply Line list. Several of the settlements are greyed out, or not selectable. I was hoping to send someone from Outpost Zimonya to Sunshine Tidings Co-op, but Sunshine is not selectable.

I have tried various different strategies. I have fast traveled to Sunshine and tried to send someone to Outpost Zimonya, but it is not selectable. I have also went to different settlements trying to select Outpost Zimonya and / or Sunshine to no avail. I have created a list (spreadsheet) on the laptop listing all the settlement attributes to see if there was a ryhme or reason as to why some are selectable, but others are not. Nothing stands out.

Is there a geographical restriction to Supply Line setups? Do I have to find the Provisioner that was initially going from Sanctuary to Outpost and send him / her to Outpost to Supply Line over to Sunshine? That may be a nightmare in itself.

Any advice or suggestions would be Greatly appreciated. As it stands now, I only have 5 out of the 16 settlements connected. So resource issues prevail over most of the settlements!

Thanks in Advance,

Bob

There are no restrictions to supply lines other than you cannot assign more than one provisioner to the same settlement.

However, if you know for certain you do not have this issue, be sure that:

-The settlement doesn't have an active quest open (kidnapping, etc) or that it's not under attack.

-You did not send a companion to the settlement.

If you did send a provisioner to the settlement, then unfortunately, yes, you will need to track them down and re-assign them. It's not tedious. Go to the settlement and find a chair. Wait in 3 hour blocks. Eventually, the provisioner will arrive.

My advice: don't make your supply lines "linear". So long as one supply line touches any settlement, you will have shared resources between them all.

With that, the best way to create supply lines is as follows:

Go to Hangman's Bluff, which is right outside Diamond City. If you haven't done so already, place a settlement broadcast tower there. You don't need to set up beds or anything else, just the beacon.

Give the game about a week, then return. You should have several settlers about. Assign all of them to settlements. Rinse and repeat until all your settlements are connected.

This makes the supply lines easier to manage, and you'll always know where your provisioners will return, if you decide to close/change supply lines.

Hope this helps. :)

ive had weird issues where i couldnt start i supply line if the destination settlement is full

eg i tried setting a supply line oberland station to sanctuary, sanctuary was at max settlers at time and was greyed out so i set line to greygarden instead (which was in the network)

despite you not "moving" them i think the game uses the same check and if full cant set supply line

are any of the settlements you trying to supply line too at max capacity? ifso can you pop on some +cha clothes or pop some graqe mentats and if that boosts your cha above their number of settlers does that allow you to then set up the supply line?

I think this has to do with the settlement size. If you're trying to send a provisioner to a settlement that's already at max capacity, it registers them as a 'new settler' and won't allow you to send them there. If you go to Sunshine Tidings and send a settler away, then go back to Outpost Zimonja, you should be able to establish the supply line. Alternatively, throw on a charisma boosting outfit and/or pop some Graqe Mentats then try reassigning them.

Slight spoilers ahead.

First off, are you playing with mods, could be an issue? I'm on PS4, so can't relate.

But, what I do know is, getting Supply Lines set up right is a bit of a pain, trying to keep track of who's going where is a bigger pain, and reassigning a Provisioner is another pain entirely.

While some like the daisy chain plan, I think it svcks donkey balls. too many separately connected links to track, no gathering point. I use a hub approach, much easier to track. My 2 hubs are Taffington Boathouse, and Oberland Staion, they connect 25 settlements, about to be 26.

Dress yer Provisioners so they're easily recognizable. Another poster suggested using Mining Helmets because of the light, I plan to do just that, been using Assault Masks.

Equip them with a weapon renamed for their route, this simple step will save a lot of aggravation.

If you need to reassign a route, and can actually find the provisioner currently running it, don't reassign him, just use the move command to send him to a "holding area", then go there, move him to where you want his new route to originate, and only then move to that location and reassign him.

The easiest way I've found to find a Provisioner is to build a chair close to the border of one of the settlements he should be traveling between, sit, and liberally use the wait command. Add some extra chairs, a bar, a trough and a cooking site, you'll have a crew to wait with.

Keep in mind, once you have assigned a settler to be a Provisioner, he will keep that title.

These are wonderful suggestions. I really wish there was an option to just cancel all of the supply lines and start fresh. Renaming a weapon to their supply route is brilliant.

i've experienced greyed out settlements myself, and after reading this thread, i've come to this theory:

1: as has been said, you can only run 1 supply line between 2 settlements

2: might be that, if you like got a provisioner sanctuary - abernathy, and then reassign him to sanctuary - tenpines, sanctuary abernathy still counts as existing route regardless of that? this would at least explain how some players don't get this, but those who do, like me and the op, all seem to have reassigned supply lines at some point (which is an obnoxiously tedious task btw)

just being able to rename our settlers would really be a HUGE improvement.

for just that, naming them after their routes, mostly, but maybe i'd just like to call my settler Curt. would help a lot to give them clone dudes at least a whee bit of personality...

I backtrack all Provisioners to Sanctuary.

Goes like this:

? get new Settlement

? grab free Settler from somewhere and assign them to new Settlement

? meet them there, set them as Provisioner back to Sanctuary.

New guy counts towards population of new Settlement, and the new place is linked and ready for development.

Everything is linked via Sanctuary to everything else, so I'd have to lose Sanctuary itself to break my network.

Also means that sooner or later, every Provisioner will turn up in Sanctuary if I need to rearm them.

As others have said, I give my Provisioners guns named after their home base for easy ID in the Wasteland.

i personally set up provisioner bases now

im using abernathy farm as i dont plan to develop it and it has a tonne of food so just have beds and anytime i need a supply line set up i go grab one of them

with say a max pop of 20 (which is my raw cha+clothes at moment) i only need 4 workers for foods (the 3 abernathys +1) i can have 16 provisioners from there.

i dont name their weapons or anything i just send and forget
